My C-130 diorama - Progress pictures

Well, ready or not, here it is:

This is my “Sanctum Sanctorum” of modeling.

As you can see, I have a few kits.

Here there are the rest, assembled kits (the ones on the wall) and the unassembled kits (the ones on the far wall).

This one shows the size of the model. It’s 32" from wing tip to wing tip.

Here you see the stabilizer surfaces are in the correct position.

This one is the port wing and the port inner flap.

Also the port wing but I’m not sure that the inner color is correct. Any suggestions?

As you can see here, the pilot was from Tennessee (YEAAAAAAAAAA !!!)

All of the parts still unassembled.

The interior view.

What you have viewed is as far as I have gotten so far.

Please make all the suggestions that you want to, on any portion that you can think of.

Looks like the Herc is coming together…but what’s the theme of your diorama?
And why did you paint only the wings so far?

Keep us posted with your progress!

This will be a L.A.P.E.S. (low altitude parachute ejection system) and the aircraft will be around 3’ to 4’ (in scale ) off the base. It will be pulling a jeep with a howitzer and ammo out the back. There will be three chutes following that. The whole thing will be 3’ to 4’ feet in lenght. It will be suspended by 2 unfolded coat hangers hidden from view by the pallets and the area between the bottom of the aircraft and the top (of the bottom) of the floor.

The gear will down.
The stabilizers will be in the correct position.
The flaps will be down.
The props will be spinning.
The rear door will be down.
The pallets will be pulled out.
The chutes will be deployed.

What’s the names of this… I guess it would be just “L.A.P.E.S.”

The reason the wings are painted was that I had difficulity finding the right shade of olive drab and when I did, the wings the only parts that I had finished. I know that they will be covered over with putty but that’s OK. At least now you know.

Wow!
Sounds like a very cool dio! Looking forward to your progress reports.

Just to confirm: this is the 1/48 Italeri (or Testors-boxed Italeri) kit, right?

Hey Vance:

Nice looking C-130! Looks like your attention to detail is going to pay off in the end. I’m looking forward to your diorama. But are you sure you’ll have room? [:D]

Take care,

Mark

Lookin’ good…[8D] Is that 1/48?

Were will you put it???

Looks like a good start to an ambitious project.

Regards, Rick

Your workbench looks almost EXACTLY like mine. I Like the TV idea…

Brilliant concept, very complicated, I hope you enjoy putting it all together. Look forward to updates.

I think you should move into the plane. There seems to be more room in there. Nice build, looking forward to the finnaly.

This is Momma!! Vance may HAVE to move into that thing with that crack about me finding room for it! [:-,]

As for that poor pasty-faced pilot - - I’m going to get after him myself. IF Vance is real nice he will get to post a shot of the pilot after I’m done with him.

Momma

comin’ along nicely vance!![tup]

Lookin real good. I like the interior and the idea.

Nice job on the Herky Bird. I especially like the interior.

I love the concept, the build is coming along nicely! Can’t wait to see it done!

And, on the flapwells…
When I started working on the Herk in 1985, the flapwells and the interiors of the landing gear wells were painted silver. Not too sure about Vietnam Era Herks, I think that either the green Zinc Chromate color or Silver would be accurate.

Keep us posted on updates!

Far out, Vance…what a fantastic Idea for a dio.
That’s something I’ve never seen anyone do before - a LAPES dio - it should be quite spectacular when its finished. Lord knows it’s gonna be big.
Please post some pics as you move along - and for sure post some pics of the finished dio - that should be a real eye opener.

Forget the herc - a Heller EC121 !!!
The last time I saw one of those was 1985!
