Hey all,
Just thought I’d show everyone the progress on the four birds I’m working on right now. They’re all getting close, but need LOTS more detail, paint and weathering. They’ve all been primed with flat black at this point and are ready for additional interior details and drybrushing.

On a serious note, those are all looking to be some good builds, Cobrahistorian. Are they all going to stay black, or it that a step in your painting process? Could you enlighten me on your process? I’m always looking to learn something new.

I always prime my helos with flat black. It works well as a base for Helo Drab. Of these four, the Apache and the Kiowa will eventually be sprayed Helo Drab, while the Little Birds will be left flat black, just really really weathered. On all of them, I’ll pre-shade along the panel lines with desert tan and then spray the main color. After that, I’ll seal it with future and hit it with an oil wash. Another coat of future, decals and then I’ll seal it all with dullcoat.
Gino, that AH-64D is the 1st Cav museum bird. Its coming along. Hoping to finish it with in the next two weeks. I’m going to enter it into ScaleFest in Mesquite, TX before giving it to the museum.

Thanks, Cobrahistorian, for the technique rundown. I’ll be looking forward to seeing your next updates. I may even give this method try on one of my birds down the road, just to see how it all works with my own eyes.
I’ll second the process. I also find it’s it’s an excellant base for OD and all greys.
