My Academy 1/32 R.A.A.F Hornet

Just wanted to share a few pics of my RAAF Hornet… The pics arent the greatest… I bought this camera, couldnt get a decent pic out of it, gave it to my brother inlaw, have been using my video camera, so decided to give the old dig camera a second try, and still crap pictures… Its great for taking pictures of friends and parties, but not models… A new camera is in the pipe line I think!

After looking at this baby… I just wish that Academy would bring out a Super Hornet, as I would love to have a 2 seater “Jolly Rogers” Super Bug sitting on my shelf!

Anyways, here are a few pics…

As an Aussie I love anything that has the sothern cross star constilation. And so this is the marking for 3 squadron.

The Flying Kangaroo…

Chris,

Nice lookin’ Aussie Hornet![:)]

Awesome looking Hornet Chris, Great job [tup][tup]

Very nice work on the Hornet.[^][tup] Sure is a neat kit, isn’t it? I’m actually working on this one right now and re-working it into an F/A-18A+. Thanks for posting the pics.

Nice lookin bug.

Very nice! Did you enjoy building this kit?

Thanks for the comments guys… Sorry the pics arent great! As for anyone wanting this kit, then get it! Unless of course you prefer the 2 seater version… In fact if I had of know about the release of the 2 seater when I bought this kit, then I would have waited… But I am still happy to have it on my shelf none the less…

This was my first attempt at 1/32, and all I can say is that it has changed my thinking, and so I probably wont but a 1/72 scale item again… The kit is a wonderfull and fun kit to build. But at times the 900 or so parts do become a bit much… I think they could simplify the main assembly a lot, and leave the tricky stuff for what you will actually see when its built…

I am now praying their is a god out there, and hope that they do a 2 seater Super Bug, as I have fallen in love with the new "Jolly “Rogers” F/A-18’s… This kit has also made me realise that less is best, and that bigger is even better, and so my whole 1/72 collections will be sold off to the nearest bidder… I also suggest you look at getting this kit from a company called www.hobbyeasy.com , they sell all their kits at a greatly reduced price, and instead of paying full price, I got my kit for a steal…

Cheers
Chris

Spankin’ job, Chris!

Cheers Brian!

I just looked and noticed my wife’s little posters at the back of the first pic… My wife is Japanese, but is totally bi-lingual… She has taken on extra responsabilities with her job, and so she has her weekly motto’s that she stands by… I didnt notice them until I looked again at that picture… I guess its funny how people are at times…

Chris

Nice clean build. I like it. You did a great job on it.

i can never get enough of the big bug. thank you for sharing.

Nicely done Chris.

Regards, Rick

What is on the tailplane? is that a decal, meant to look like something painted on the tail? 32nd scale is quite big!!

Nice hornet ! Sure is a lot of plastic. Must be a great kit to say no more 1/72.

Hey RadMax8, I am not sure what you are refering to? If you are refering to the markings. Then that is the Southern Cross Star Contilation used by 3 squadron… The red white and blue markings are found on all Australian military aircraft… It is infact a decal set by Aussie Decals… Other than that, I really dont understand what you are getting at?.. A brush never touched this model?

Another thing I noticed when I look at the pics, is how much dust is on it, I should have dusted it before taking pics…

Wow, great looking model!

Very nice build mate, nice to see an F-18 in Austrailian markings.

Darren.

Thanks guys… Well as a patriotic Australian living in Japan, I thought I needed something nice and big to display in Australian markings… Although in saying that. I am now awaiting my 1/32 Nakajima Ki-43 II and 1/32 A6M5c Zero…

You could definately say that I have caught the 1/32 bug!

Chris

Nice build, Chris!
