my 9 year old son's first build

he’s off to a great start…when i first started modeling i didnt even bother painting them…i just threw the pieces together…[(-D]

It took a few years of on and off modeling before I finally sat down and really took my time. It was a pro modeler HellDiver. I found it with a bunch of my stuff this past weekend when I went to my highschool home town, boy…i was amazed out how badly I messed it up…lol

I might just put up some pics for the humor of it…lol

Alway’s great to start at an early age. [:)]

hello all,

just wanted to say thanks for all the kind words.

my son has read your posts and he is pretty excited about it.

i will keep posting pics as we go.

im not too worried about seams or things like that, those skills will come in time.

right now i just want him to finish it,i want him to feel that self gratification we

all get when we finish a piece.

hopefully that will drive him to build more.

Your son is a chip off the ol’ block, and you should be very proud of him! His cockpit looks better than many of mine do today! Given some time and experience, he is going to be one of the top builders, methinks! Thanks so much for sharing his great work and for refreshing my hope for the next generation. [#toast]

Tell your son he is doing an excellent job on his 'stang. The floor is excellent, very good representation of wood.

Um, Yea,

Start him off right even if it takes an empty threat like he can’t start another before finishing his current project. Otherwise he just might grow up to be like me: and I would suspect, so many others!

[:P]

I wasn’t going to post these pics, but this has changed my mind. Not trying to step on anyone’s toes here, but here’s my boy’s first model. It’s a little snap-tite F-16 that took us about 30 minutes to build. Not very much of a challenge here, but heck, he’s 5 yrs old and it was fun!

I certainly hope so [:(] (thats a dig at my skills)

invertman, gedenke - fantastic pictures and great to see!

thought i would post some pics of the progress on my son’s p-51.

we finally got it painted.

i helped him with the masking and paint,he said he wanted it to look just like the box top.

it’s coming along great, and he is proud of it,even though it’s taking awhile to finish.

Hope I can do that well when I get back into it!

THe mustang is looking really nice. He’s almost there…I can imagine the excitement when he sees how “alive” the decals will make it look. Keep posting pics!

Excellent work for any age! Might have to dip into the college fund for his own airbrush and spray booth![(-D]

I can remember sitting and watching Dad building Johnny Rutherford’s McLaren, and being amazed at watching all those assorted pieces coming together so beautifully; he even managed to mix up the wierd orange color just right. When he was finished, he gave it to me to put on my dresser where it stayed for years and years; I was so proud of that thing even though the only thing I added to it’s completion was about a billion questions! I can only imagine how much your little guy’s chest will swell when he shows that off![bow]

What a great way to spent some father-n-son time!

Hi there,
Could you FedEx him to my place please, I need someone with a good pair of eyes [:)]
Glad to see he was keen to share Dad’s hobby. Best of luck to you both. Wait till he discovers that everything you own in the world can be used for scratchbuilding !! LOL
Regards
Mick C.

Looks like it’s coming together nicely! [tup]

invertman- That is great to see! He’s doing a wonderful job- so are you. [:)]

When I read that, this popped into my head:

“Modeling. So easy a 9 year old can do it…”

[;)] LOL

One day 10 years from now Im going to be replying to one of your sons threads and say " I remember your first model when you were only 9 yrs old." I certainly hope that day comes as he will surely be an excellent builder by then.
