my 1/72 panther *PICS*

i started this one a while ago, (beginning of summer), and then stopped in the beginning of august because i was in New Mexico(i was at philmont). i never really got back into it with school starting back up, and my brother’s wedding, and christmas, Blah, Blah, Blah,…so i was bored on the last week of christmas vacation, and got out this tank i started forever ago. well, i finished it, and promptly bought 2 more kits. anyway here it is. (drumroll please) revell germany’s 1/72 Panther. i would tell you more about it, but i threw the box away. it went together really well, and was a pretty sweet build. the only “problem” was the tracks, but thats because im lazy, and impatient, and the i did it, and they turned out really nice. i used MM german uniform grey, and a whole slew of acrylic washes. i used tamiya’s weathering kit with the soot/snow/rust, and i used tam’s light earth weathering pen on the tracks.

and for scale i put it next to a MM bottle

comment and crits welcome! thanks for looking!

That is a very small scale, too small for my hands. Were any Panther tanks German Uniform Grey?

Hope to see more of your work. Thanks for showing.

I’ve never seen a tank in that exact colour before but it looks pretty good. Plenty more room for weathering. When it’s done, that is if you decide to go further with it (don’t let me tell you what to do), I suggest you put it in a diorama. It is a really small scale but the thing with smaller scale models is that they’re perfect for learning and experimenting new techniques and methods and what not, they don’t take as long to build and you have more room for other models and dio’s etc.

RALPH, i honestly dont know, and i honestly dont care[swg]. im not one to build for accuracy, so whatever looks cool,…

hey newguy, i have a dio base buil up for it, i just got to give it grass, dirt, and maybe a road sign. ill get some pics of it on soon. as for weathering, what else do you suggest i do?

thanks for looking guys!

OK FINE

HEHE! maybe i should rephrase that to sound less like a jack@$$!! the color i used was the color i used for my hanomag(i know i spelled that wrong), and seeing as how i didnt have the colors the kit called for, it seemed appropriate. sorry ralph.

Yah, Panthers would have been painted in Dunkelgelb. Earlier panzers, before Feb. 43 would have been painted in Panzergrau.

Since accuracy isn’t what you went for, then the fun factor kicks in and that seems to be what you got. Sometimes we forget that aspect of the hobby and get too hung up on detail and accuracy.

i was actually thinking of trying a "chipping " effect on this one, gut i have to clue how to do that. any tips? again thanks for looking!!

I love it.Panthers look great in grey.

I have to see you’re dio pics before I suggest further weathering applications. It depends on the scene and what the terrain is like, I mean if it’s really muddy and wet well further dirt and mud weathering on the tracks and wheels is an obvious choice, if it’s been running through lots of trees and vegetation like brushing up against it you should chip and scratch the paint job a little (or a lot), did it see the eastern front at winter time? snow weathering! so on so forth.

here’s some pics of the base

its styrofoam and paper mache’. anyone got any ideas for grass? the woodland senics is not very realistic. for the road im going to put down a layer of white glue, then sprinkle dirt on it. there wont be any trees, bet maybe a couple bushes. this is my forst dio and im just tryin to keep it simple. im a jobless 14 yr old and trying o use as much household stuff as i can. any help would be great! thanks!!

i was also gonna try my hand at scratchbuilding a simple roadsign to put on the opposite corner of the ridge. any ideas?

I am definetly not the person to go to for scratch building and 1/72 roadsigns and accessories like that are hard to come by. For this, go to the scratchbuilding forum, there should be plenty of highly experienced adult scratchbuilders on their that can help you out from A to Z. I’m also yet to begin my first dio’, so you’re going better than me. I really need to get off of my lazy a$$ and start one. Go to the diorama forum for your grass, materials and what not needs. But you said you were going to put in a dirt road, your tracks are fairly muddy but the dirt is to light and bright for your average road dirt. Get your weather kit back out and darken it, and dress up the wheels too. This kit gives you the perfect opportunity to practice washes and dry brushing and weather pastels and all sorts on the upper hull as well. Why not try it. Or if you don’t want to you can always buy another 1/72 armor kit and and begin from scratch. Take my advice and don’t rush anything.

Remember the days before the contests, the ‘experten’, and the internet, when we just built to please ourselves? In a strange way I miss it.

thanks newguy! i have since added markings and weathered it a little more. i got a soft pastel set for my birthday a while back(i was taking art classes), so i got those out and experimented with that. i scraped off a little pile of some brown, then dipped my brush in that, then in some water. then i put it where i wanted it. theres more to it than that, but thats the basics of what i did.

I love the hobby now, but yes, I miss the days when I was 9-10 and built a model in 1 day and didn’t even paint it! My how times have changed.
