My 1:50 Chebec has arrived!

All I have to say is…WOW! A 1977 Chebec kit in perfect condition with all parts still in their original wrappers. And not one single bit of flash or warping. And the detail…it’s just superb. I’ve never seen detail like this done on a plastic kit. Big Jake is correct that the stern detail is a tad sparce, but overall I’m just floored by the quality and detail of this kit. And it’s huge. The 6 pounders are at least 2 inches long, and the launch, which is a kit all by itself, is a full 8 inches long, with a lot of detail. If you can get this kit, then get it. I got lucky and got mine for under a hundred.

Big Jake, I’ll let you know when I’m ready to go and I’ll probably be in touch before then to compare some ideas/notes. You’re a bit more advanced in technique than I am so I’ll have more than a few questions to throw at you. I’m going to do some research on this one for a while, and I may have a go at doing full rigging on the guns. They’re big enough, that’s for sure.

Grymm,

You are not going to find much on that type of boat. Several links you will find will take you to the Maritime Museum in France where thay have a beautiful model of a Chebec.

And here are some other links

Hey Jake, I started some research and Chebec just wasn’t pulling up anything. But, under a search for the original spelling “Xebec”, I got the following website.

http://www.geocities.com/xebecinc/?200710

This site is dedicated to all things Xebec/Chebec. Tons of information, art, models…you name it.

GOOD SITE!
