I am workin on 3 models actually///talkin bout busy[xx(]…i have my 1/48 P-38j “Marge”, a balsa wood BF-109, and a 1:32 model kit of Chuck Yeagr’s P-51D ‘Glamerous Glen’. It comes with the Verlinden update with resin & photo etched parts and a set of True Details resin wheels.
I got the 'Stang with all its updates and wheels off ebay for $40.00!! not bad ehh? Everything is still bagged and everything so its a good deal.[:p]
What i was wanting is some tips or some pics of the interior of the cockpit or some detailed photos that I might could use.
Try spraying with an aluminum paint (model master 1451). then apply decals. Then apply “dull cote” over top of everything except clear canopys and lenses. At least thats what my “Model Master” pamphlet says.
Hey Shark,
Here a some reference pics I found of the Mustangs interior. These shots are from a restored 51so this will give you a general view on how the cockpit was laid out and painted.
Interior green(FS 34151) was the overall color that was used inside the office. http://www.flightjournal.com/plane_profiles/p-51_mustang/p-51_mustang_details.asp

Hey shark,
Would this help ya out a lil? Let me know if you need anything else ok!! Sorry bout the last two pics, for some reason I could not size em like the others[:(]
Yes[:D] thnx Butz…they help alot…
Now i can say that i bet a mechanic back then that worked on a P-51 engine probably thinks a car is a child’s toy!![8D]
But if you find anything else…then let me know…i might would need some pics of the wheel wells though…ive been searching around…but the only sites with pics are always of the plane itself.
I just got my P-51 from the UPS guy today, and ends up that it includes an engine!!! [so Butz all the pics of the engine and of the cockpit are a huge help!![:D] ]
ill need them expecially painting the photo etched parts in the cockpit…its my first time using photo etched parts like that and is a bit confusin…ill figure it out[:p][:p]
–but the kit is a wonderful kit…i recomend it already[8D][8D][;)]
the wheels it comes with has the diamond treads but doesnt have the buldge at the bottom…also the wheel wells are nicely detailed![:p] not like most model ive seen…the guns are full scale length…and both access panel on each wing can open and expose the 6 MGs.
The flaps on the horizontail and vertical stabilizers look like theyre covered in a canvas material.
Ive started with the engine today and it has pretty realistic detailing…for it not to be After market…but ill add some wires here and there…over all im surprised with its detailing and i hope it will come out nicely…it may take a few months[V][|)][xx(]
but it’ll be worth it!![:)][:D][8D][:D][:p][;)]
I built the Hasegawa 1/32 Mustang shortly after I re-entered the hobby. I can remember painting it after I got my first airbrush. I did it in Testors Chrome Silver, and for some reason it never dried. I’ve always been a Mustang fan - my father flew them in Italy in WW II, scoring 3 aerial victories. Never quite made it to “ace” status. Good luck on the kit ! Pix
Hey Butz
Yeah it’ll take alot of patients with this one[:p]…ive been painting the spinner yellow(for the stripe) and been letting it dry for 24 hrs…and its nice and smooth the next day to add another coat…im into 2 coats right now…thnx again for the pics.
Hey Pix
Did you add any airbrush thinner to the paint when you airbrushed it[?][?] cause i didnt use thinner when i airbrushed silver on one of the first p-51s i did and it got all messy and thick[:(] but thats b/c i didnt know about the thinner[:I]
But thats cool though about ur dad flying them…did he every take any pics of his plane or of him with it[?][?]
No, shark, I never saw any pics of his '51. He only had one wartime picture, as far as I knew, of himself and his crew in front of their B24. It was taken before the raid on the oil fields at Ploesti, Romania. It was called “Operation Tidalwave.” If you don’t know the history, look it up. It is an incredible story. My father died back in '89, and I have tried many times in many places to find out information on the planes that he flew, so that I could mark the unbuilt kits of those planes as his. I will keep them unbuilt until I find the source of info that I need. I like metal music, myself. Check out my picture in the rongeorge gallery under “model humor.” Till next time, Pix.
shark, I only have one pair of those ( JBL CF 120; 12" low ; 3.5"mid ; titanium tweeter) and a smaller pair of JBL J620( 6.5" low ; titanium tweeter ), but I drive them with a Crown CE 1000 power amp (450 watts/channel) I was a professional sound engineer for 25 years, touring mostly New England (where I live). My equalizer is a dbx 231 ( 2 channel, 31 bands ) I can peel the paint off the back wall if I want. Talk to you later, Pix.
Also…does anybody know the exact yellow color used on the 357th FGs spinner[?][?] I have put a few coats of Tamiya’s acryllic yellow by brush…then i have airbrushed a few thinner coats…and it still doesnt match the yellow i see in the pics or on the decals[:(]…what specific yellow should i use??
Hey shark,
Are you using aftermarket decals or the decals that were supplied w/ the kit!!
I have done a few 357th birds myself and the closest yellow that matches is the German Yellow. Off hand I cant recall the RLM number for the yellow[:(]
The yellow is by Polly S or is it Polly Scale AAHHHHHhh, anyway the yellow has a somewhat of a orangish cast to it and if you look at the decal of the checker board, you’ll see a hint of orange.
I mean I usually use AeroMaster or Eaglestrike when I build a 357th a/c and the RLM yellow matches almost perfect w/ the decal.
I should know it like the back of my hand[:p][:p]
