Our club is having a Mustang Round up next month so I thought I’d post mine here. It’s the Tamiya 1/48 P-51B that came with some extra parts and Cartagraph decals. I added an Eduard PE set, but sorry no pictures of the office. Tough to get shot through the Malcolm Hood…

Long story but I am trying to fix this without repainting it. It all started with a missed aim with the airbrush and an attempt to correct, or over correct…

I agree on the staining. It’s not that it’s too much, it’s that it doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of the paint job. Overall the bird is almost pristine, but the heavy staining seems out of place for a bird in that good a shape. I would severely tone it down, along with the engine exhaust staining, or slightly dirty up the rest of the plane so they look more consistant with each other. Just my opinion. Great build though. Good work.

Don’t airbrush, use charcoal and a brush… [;)] It’s far easier to control, and if you screw it up, it wipes off easily…
As for fixing it, try drybrushing with some silver…

Do you seal this with anything or is it just handle with care? I’ve heard others say that sealing chalk type weathering has almost made it vanish.
Well other than the excess soot already pointed out I think she looks beautiful. I love the looks of the blue-nosed P-51s.
Hey guys, don’t know why I didn’t think of this before but I was able to eliminate the gun stains using some fine steel wool. Didn’t seem to bother the Semi-Gloss Lacquer… I’ll try to repost some pictures…
Sorry I was late replying, but the others are right, and no, I don’t seal pastels… Just about everything you can imagine to use, hairspray, laquers, enamels, metalizer sealers, name it, will drastically alter them or even destroy them…
Handle the model with care after applying… I use surgical gloves, m’self… Pastels work just like fingerprint powders…
