… did the Mustang with wing tip ramjets really have ramjets or were they radiators? I’ve seen a pic of this plane but now I can’t find it.

I have the Hasegawa model of this plane comming and am trying to do a little research.

I believe they were real engines. Information is a little sparse, but I did find this:

It’s in German, but the last entry contains a couple of photos. Also, the (English) quoted section from “The Marquardt Story” includes the following:

In early 1946 two Marquardt ramjets were installed on the wing tips of a P-51 Mustang and created an increase in maximum speed of 40 miles per hour. Although this was not phenomenal, the 20-inch Marquardt engine, which weighed slightly more than 100 pounds, could provide as much thrust as a turbojet engine that weighed 10 times more.
