I’ve been eyeing the Skif MTLB with ZU-23 and was wondering if anyone knows much about the kit? I built their BTR-152E lately and without the PE I used on it, it would have been pretty soft looking on the detail side. What are the Aftermarket options available? and last, do any companies sell the required ZU-23 and seat/mount with better deail than the original kit? Or is it a newer Skif kit, better than the old BTR-152? Any information would be helpful. Thanks, Ian
I have the standard MTLB, and it comes with rudimentary interior detail. I emphisize on the rude. If you liked the BTR-152, you should more than likely enjoy the MTLB. It doesn’t look bad for the 12.00 I paid for my. I’d say get it.
Thanks, I did enjoy the Skif kit, other than filling and sanding on the BTR, I guss I’ll go for it.
All of their MTLB kits are the same basically, no matter which kit you got. I’ve got one sitting in their Artillery Complex kit, and yeas, as above, it comes with a VERY rudimentary interior. It will build nice as it is, but I do believe there is a PE set for it from Eduard, and aftermarket wheels and tracks. Let me know if you decide on any of these options, since I’m itching to have someone build the kit before I start on mine [:P]
Zokkisima, Thanks for the information, The Duard kit is for the APC/ammo carrier version, which wouldn’t help for the ZU-23 AA gun, which is the main reason I was looking for PE. It looks like a decent kit even without PE, so I’ll probably just go for it. Keep an eye on the forums, if I get it, I’ll be building it within the month.
Fruil makes a set of tracks for the MTLB besides all the other previously mentioned AM items here.
Yeah, I’ve always wanted to try friuls, but the price tag…[:O] Yeah, can you tell I’m cheap? I don’t mind $35 in aftermarket on a kit , but for $35 I could get a PE set ($15), aluminum barrel ($8), and some sort of resin upgrade/conversion for the remaining $17 or so. When you weigh the options, it’s quite clear which would help the over all build more in my opinion. Then again, you could do both options, but then you’re talking $70 in aftermarket, and a $30 kit, plus figure $15 shipping for it all and we’re hitting $115 plus, and that’s being generous on the pricing. Just my opinions on AM tracks. [soapbox] Hehe
I’m with you there Ian! The Fruils are not cheap (but I can be!) Well Accurate Armor also makes a resin track set (w/sprocket) for the MTLB/2S1 kits. The price is in English Pounds, but unless the dollar has really taken a dive they are about half as much cheaper than the Fruils.
