MRP paints - where do you buy?

Lucky indeed !!

I know! It’s so confusing. When something has a “Mr” in front of it, I think of Gunze Sanyo. I think they are Mr Color?

So here is the MRP (Mr Paint) website. It is a company in Eastern Europe, apparently Slovakia.

Here are links to the line on HobbyworldUSA-com and Sprue Bros (Aqua (acrylic)) and Sprue Bros (Lacquer).

They have an acrylic line (they call it Aqua), and the older, lacquer line.

Hope the hotllinks work, hope this helps. Confuses me too.

DoogsATX has a really good video out on MRP.

Thanks for the info. The links work fine. I’m familiar with the Mr name but never saw the name MRP before and didn’t know it was the same brand. I’ve also never used any of their paints so maybe it’s time to give them a try.

You’re welcome, Jeff.

The video by DoogsATX PlasticJunkie posted above is worth a look. It covers the Mr Paint lacquers. He has another one where he tries out the acrylics and is surprised.

I guess that might explain the need for a phone call to order stuff, though that’s not uncommon for smaller shops. Thanks.

Well I took the plunge and ordered a couple of their Aqua paints from Sprue Brothers. These will be for figure painting, so no need of any thinner for airbrushing.

Are you aware MRP apparently has a separate line of Aqua paints for figures (and by figures I presume they mean for brush painting?)? Their nomenclature is MRP-A (for airbrush) and MRP-F (for figures). I’m guessing it’s sort of like Vallejo Air (for airbrush) and Vallejo Model Color (for brush painting)?

I haven’t had a chance to try to hand brush the -A or play with the -F at all yet.

I hope you like the stuff after all my carrying on.

I do know now. Military Hobbies only had their lacquers. Looking on Sprue Brothers for some extra “add ones” I discovered their acrylics and the Figure Paints. I picked up a couple bottles that look useful.

Not sure if these are acrylics or lacquer but it is at HW usa: http://www.hobbyworld-usa.com/Store/index.php?id_category=1248&controller=category

Those are lacquers. Bigger bottle and labeled “Mr Paint” The acrylic “Aqua” line is in a smaller bottled labeled “MRP”.

It’s kind of neat how the Hobbyworld-USA site is set up. If you look at the left pane, you can navigate other Mr Paint product categories (Aqua, Aqua for figures, Primers, Clears, etc.)

Sprue Bros.posted that a large MRP restock has arrived as of Friday.

Awesome. Thank you, Mike. [Y]

UhOh!

Gotta Ask, What the Heck is MRP paint? Never heard of it!

I don’t know much either, TB. It a paint line out of Eastern EU (Slovakia). I don’t know how long they’ve been around. Maybe 5 yrs?

Their home page is here.

Well I didn’t investigate long enough to find out but I wanted to get the link posted at least. Thanks for the clarification Greg. I might have to try those out along the way myself. I am shooting probably 90% acrylic now actually but still use some enamels and lacquer too and haven’t tried these.

I had considered trying Zero paint ( also lacquer) and someone mentioned them in this thread as well. I did a search for Zero and ran into a notice that they have closed up for Covid 19. Don’t know if they will return but for now anyway I guess they’re out of the loop.

I really like their acrylic versions. No oder, spray great with easy cleanup (Iwata acrylic airbrush cleaner). A little goes a long way. I use Vallejo Flow Improver to thin them. Living in a low humidity environment, the flow improver really helps and makes spraying acrylics work like a dream. Mottling Greman Luftwaffe is a breeze with MRP acrylics. In my opinion and for me, MRP acrylics spray as well as GSI Mr Hobby Aqueous (another great paint but difficult to get the higher numbers as H417 rlm 76). MRP acrylics are fast becoming my go to acrylic paint.

I’m with you on the MRP acrylics. I like that they dry fast and surprisingly hard for acrylics.

I’m normally not one to mix and match products, but if you like the way the MRP acrylics act with Vallejo Flow Improver, try some Mr Leveling Thinner.

Hey Greg, Max popping in from the quantum world. Checking on you and the Gang. Hope all is well! Be safe my friend! Max

Hey Max! Glad to hear from you, and good to know all is well in the alternate reality.

Please don’t be a stranger.
