Hey guys, it seems things are going good for everyone one the ol’ forum, tiss good to see!
things are ok here in iraq , or as well as can be expected?
I’ve been working on a few things and finnished my british scout car and the hetzer in 1/76 scale, they were fun, the hetzer i even made a lil’ dio base from some of the crud laying around the FOB.
Ed,
thanks a million for the box of goodies, i had some spaghetti ( spelling ) for lunch today, it rocked!!! you hit the nail right on the head there with the munchies and crunchies!
that russian howitzer should give me some fun to work with, speaking of, i thought i might have seen something like that on the back 40 , so i guess next time we go out i’ll take a closer look?
that plastic welder stuff rocks also, i’ve never used anything like it before but now i’m hooked!
well, i’m gonna get going, you all take care, i’m gonna go pester gunny to see what my # is on the R&R list so i can get home to good ol’ Erie PA.
O-yeah i almost forgot, i got to go out with EOD again, we got mortared again ( 13 rounds ) and we went to look at the rounds due to one was a UXO ( un-exploded ordinance ) , it was pretty cool, tail fins sticking up out of the concrete by a school ( theyt have reall bad aim, this time it was like 800 meters off )
Thanks for the update, Jesse. Glad to know they have such a bad aim. Just make sure you aren’t in the wrong place while they are aiming at someone else! Good luck with the R&R list. I hope you get to come back soon. Take care and watch those UXOs!!
Jesse,
glad it made it ok.
i must admit i feared when mentioning ‘food’ on the customs form
that it would get opened for ‘inspection & consumption’.
i guess i am not the trusting sort.
not sure if i knew you were a PA guy.
i am kitty-corner from Erie, down near the Philly end.
hope they let have R&R.
glad you like the tenax. it is pretty ‘strong’.
but similar in behavior to Ambroid Pro-Weld and Tamiya Thin or Extra-Thin.
you can eliminte some (small) gaps by squishing stuff together,
but don’t get carried away w/ the pressure, as it will let you really deform stuff.
just push till a little bead of material comes out.
once you sand the bead down, it is smooth.
on some pieces (especially airplane wings, but i am sure there is an armor application)
you can put a single edge razor between the two halves, wick the liquid into the seam
by running the touch & flow along the side of the blade, and then pulling the blade out
while gently squeezing the pieces.
also works by brushing some on both parts to be joined and then just mating them.
unfortunately, it also is excellent for running under a squeezing fingertip and
permanently etching your fingerprint into the plastic.
so beware of that!
anyhow, stay safe.
and don’t be bashful.
if you run low of supplies, modeling or edible, give a shout.
Great to hear from you again Jesse. Sounds like they need to figure out which way t point those things if they get that far off, but lets hope they dont figure them out.
Good to hear things are as good as can be expected over there. Rumor has it that my regiment will be “in the chute” for OIF next year. I’ll be putting a styrene survival kit together to take with me for that trip.[^] OEF now, OIF later. But I think they warned me about that when I signed the contract.[:D] Too bad you can’t call some counter-battery in on them, let them feel the steel rain for a change…
That sounds like a sweet deal! You planning on getting out after this tour? I’m trying to get a re-up package in for a bonus while I’m out here. Got to take advantage of the tax-free when you can! Stay safe over there!
I am very happy to hear that they have no aim, no clue. I hope your aim is true, and they get some freedom if they want it! We are all proud of your hard work.
Have you had any luck in contacting the baghdad hobby club?
Are there other modelers or do you get a lot of funny looks?
Maybe you can take a pic of your hetzer on a burned out t-72 [:)]
Please hollar for anything that you need!
Stay safe,
most of the guys look at me like i’m crazy when i work on my models but they all think they’re pretty neat when i’m done. I’ve even had a few guys ask me to build the vehicle that they work on or with, also, i’ve become the local carpenter and artist for my unit.
so far i’ve made lots of shelfs a set of steps some crazy looking soda can despensers and various others along with my sections new sign that is almost questionable to put up? ( i’ll take some pics of most of the goodies as i usually do, most likely when i get home, i think i’lll make a web page for most of the pics ).
Jesse, as a fellow redleg myself, deffinitly keep your head down. The enemy may goof and get one round right and then you will be in trouble. Glad to hear all is as well as can be expected over there. My gaurd unit is sending a btln over soon and being a 13f, I keep waiting for my number to be called but until then i will keep going on till it does get called.
