Mr Surfacer, where art thou?

Having a hell of a time finding ANY Mr. Surfacer. What happened? Any place to get it?

It’s gone from the USA market. You’ll have to search oriental sites and take your chances. I have forgotten about getting any more of that product. Shipping takes ages and costs are high.

There seems to be a good bit of it on eBay with free shipping if you every shop there. Prices seem somewhat close to what a couple of online shops have it listed for.

Weirdly I found several bottles at a Hobby USA near Mammoth Caverns Kentucky while on vacation last year. I have no idea if any other Hobby USA has it.

And yes I bought half of their stock and am hording it… [6]

First I’ve heard about it being gone. I know the story with Gunze us that they only import a very few times a year, thus the shortages. On the other hand, Testors just released a new fine-surface lacquer primer. Given availability issues and some troubling lifting issues I’ve had with Mr Surfacer of late, I’m itching to try the Testors stuff out.

Mr surfacer is more than a primer though, so I doubt the testers stuff will be as good

I’d wager that the Testors stuff is probably going to pull out somewhere near Mr. Surfacer 1200 and Tamiya fine surface primer (after it’s been decanted).

I can’t say whether or not the product is permanently gone from the US but this happened a few years a go. Rumored to be gone, shortage for a while then all of a sudden full racks at the LHS. I stocked up on a lot of it then and couldn’t tell if the shelf is empty or not right now. I may be making a trip there today and I’ll check it out.

I have about half a bottle left .I started using de-canted automotive primer .I let it sit and thicken then carefully brush it on . I just get tired of trying a product and it’s not there when I need more . Tanker-builder

I tried it once for a few applications, and luckily, never got to the place of relying on it for much of anything, Honestly, you can pretty much make your own from Testor’s liquid glue, white or green putty, and filler like talcum powder or even fine ballast.

I can’t remember were I read the post here or some other forum. But DuPont Lucite131 fill & sand primer same thing as Mr Surfacer.

Have a nephew who does body work , been meaning to ask him about it, maybe get a little and try it.
