When you guys use Mr. Surfacer 500 to fill in seam lines, etc. - how long does it need to dry before it can be sanded? Also, is there something that can be used to thin it other than their proprietary thinner (Mr. Surfacer Thinner?)?

Regular Lacquer thinner works. I have been using Tamiya lacquer thinner lately (its what I have lying around).
I usually lay it on thick, let it sit overnight, and start sanding. I have also seen people smooth it with a cotton ball soaked in Lacquer thinner.
Do you know if Alclad II`s primer/ filler is about the same as Mr Surfacer? I was looking for Mr S to try it but my HS was fresh out so I bought the Alclad stuff…worked pretty good…just wondering if Mr S is better.
Thanks for the replies, everybody! I’d heard about smoothing out with a cotton ball and laquer thinner, but I thought that was for putty. I’ll have to give it a try. Does the laquer thinner attack or affect the plastic around it? (I use mostly acrylic paints, so have not had the need to use lacquer thinner yet.)
