Hi I have done alot of reading about Mr surfacer 500 and really want to try it.and the thinner for it. But I cannot seem to find anyone that acttually has it in stock. Anyone have any ideas thanks MarkBLOCKED SCRIPTinsertsmilie(‘[?]’)
Squadron mail order has it, thats where i got mine.
greatmodels.com has it in both jar & spray can.
500 & 1000.
you can thin it with good old acitone.
i am not sure why you would want to thin it, or thin it much.
i think the jar stuff is made to be brush painted and is supposed to be thick
to fill minor imperfections.
of course, how you use it is up to you!
thanks guys… I am looking for it too, for harder seams then any tank could have…wing to fuselage!!!
If you are wanting it thin then go withthe 1000 grit, the 500 is thicker and is what I use for textureing. You will next need a old brush( red sable) and cut the brush 3/4 the way up and apply Mr.surfacer with another brush covering a small area at a time cause it drys quick, then using the cut brush jab the suface and walla.I use laquar thinner to clean the brush.
I thin it for two resons…
One, to use it as a primer, sprays on beautifly at the consitancy of milk.
Two, thin it down just enogh so it will blow through my old junker Pache VL a/b with the big tip at around 40psi and it looks just like the anti skid coating they put on the horisontal surfaces of US armor.
Now there’s an interesting tip. Gotta file that one away.
swerdna,
well, it seems i learn something new every day!
i have used it just by brush on problem spots.
sounds like there are new techniques to try!
thanks.
