Mr Surfacer 1000

I just picked up some of this in a rattle can, which has worked great for me, as well as some in the jar for airbrushing into hard to reach spots that the can won’t reach. My question is what thinner I can use. Laquer thinner? Acetone?
Any help is appreciated

StevenQ,

I have been reading about this stuff but never used it. Can you please tell me what it is supposed to do? Thanks.

For handbrushing use: Mr Thinner

For Airbrushing use either: Mr Leveling Tinner or Mr Thinner and a bit of Mr Retarder Mild

Now I’m Mr Confused.[:D] Do I have to use these or can I sub some cheaper thinner like something at Home Despot? Thanks.

Cbreeze, Its a nice primer by Gunze-Sangyo. It works great right out of the rattle can compared to Krylon/rustoleum. May be tough to find, and it aint cheap.

Gunze Sangyo products use a strange thinner, so far to the best of my knowledge nothing has come close to the real stuff.

But maybe others have found a mix of stuff that works for them, I normally go with the Gunze stuff as it is readily available here every HS stocks it.

I’ve successfully shot Mr.Surfacer 1000 through my airbrush and thinned it with lacquer thinner. Ended up being about the best primer I’ve tried.

Lacquer thinner is what you want.

Thanks Murray, that’s what I needed to hear. A can of that from HD is a lot cheaper. Thanks all for the replies.

Where is a good place to buy this stuff. I have to try some. Thanks.
