I started building plastic models (so far all sailing ships) again a little over two years ago. I hadn’t built any for over 50 years so I’m trying to relearn and add to what little modeling skills I had as a teenager.
My attempt at the Revell 1/96 USS Constitution turned out more or less as if a 12 year old without much skill had thrown it together (It’s my avatar [:$]). So, being a glutton for punishment and determined to learn to do better, I bought 3 Revell 1/96 Cutty Sarks from eBay so I could make mistakes and still have some parts to do over again. I’m working on her right now. I’m shortly going to take a little break from the CS In order to build a 1/350 USS Duncan DD-485 (using the Dragon 1/350 USS Buchanan for my conversion) for a friend whose dad died on board the Duncan in 1942.
Now, enough background. My question pertains to the above mentioned acrylic paints. I prefer acrylic paints (fewer fumes, quicker drying, easier cleanup - sometimes) and am happy with the Polly Scale and LifeColor acrylics I have for my ships. They spray OK from my AB’s and I can brush paint with them just fine. However, I’ve decided to take a short break from all the ships in my stash to work on one or two WWI airplanes after finishing the destroyer for my friend. Today I’ll be receiving an Eduard 1/48 Albatros DV Profi Pak and I have the Revell 1/48 Spad XIII - late in my stash already. I’ve noticed from my looking around the 'net that Mr. Kit acrylics have many of the WWI plane colors. Unfortunately they don’t seem to be sold in the USA anymore unless one of you can provide me with a link. Anyone?

Welcome back to the modeling world, Mike! Hope your ships come out well for you.
As far as Mr. Kit paints, I’ve never heard of the brand, unless they’re related to the “Mr.” line of Tamiya chemicals for modeling (Mr. Surfacer, etc.). You might want to try the Tamiya website to see if they have what you’re looking for. Good Luck!

I guess the MisterKit acrylics for WWI fighter aircraft are no longer sold here in the U.S.A. Too bad, it looked like they might save a lot of hassle with mixing paints. Oh well. I suppose they’re in England (UK) and Italy although who knows, they may have gone belly up by this time.

I know the old Great models website carried them. I’ve used a few Mr.kit bottle before and found they behave alot like life color paints. Tough to airbrush and prone to tip dry. But I loved the look of their colors as they seemed pretty accurate. If I remember right they sprayed better with Tamiya’s x-20a thinner?? You’ll just have to search the web and be prepared to buy overseas.

Rob Wiederrich took over a thread on the Revell 1/96 Cutty Sark a while back and I, for one, am sooo grateful he did. He’s a gentleman who is generous with his knowledge, encouraging to folks like me who need motivation to tackle the big CS, and a master modeler. I’m not in the same solar system (much less “ballpark”) as Rob is but, through the knowledge I’ve gained reading about building the Revell 1/96 CS, and Rob’s suggestions, posted images, and helpful commentary, I am - so far - managing to soldier on.
You might check out the ships forum from time-to-time. There are some really interesting techniques I’ve read about on that forum that might be applicable to aircraft modeling as well.
BTW, Rob has started another thread regarding the Cutty Sark when she had been taken over by the Portugese and renamed the Ferreira. It’s an astonishing accomplishment so far and I’m sure it’ll only get better.

I’m confused by that page you linked. I’d been there before but can’t find the acrylic WWI paints that I’m after.

that sales page is in alphabetical order by paint name, but the paint numbers were assigned and batched by Air Force and Era
that makes it a bit confusing for us,but, if you scroll down a few paints, you will some of the paints labeled for use on the German Albatross, in alphabetical order, with the part numbers jumping around in the beginning of the line
the only way I know to fix it would be for some “paint enthusiast” like me to type up a list of paints, in batches and part number order, and post it up online
but, if you scroll through and watch for the “era clues”, you could find a fairly complete set of Paints for WW II USN, WWI German, etc
