Hi,
does anyone has had an experience with these paints? Are they good? Which thinner they need?
Thanks for your help
Gonzalef, not sure if you’ve got the aqueous Hobby Colour paints, or the enamels.
If the former, then you can thin with either water or Tamiya acrylic thinner, if the latter, then normal enamel thinner.
Best of luck
Karl
I use a lot of the Gunze aqueous paints and really like them.
For Gunze Aeqeous paints you can also get good results with isopropyl alcohol. You can’t go wrong using Gunze’s Mr. Thinner for either of their paints (go figure!). I’ve also gotten fairly good results with 50% paint, 30% alcohol, and 20% lacquer thinner when I needed more “bite” to the paint - and quicker drying.
Keep in mind that most of the G-S AH paints are semi-gloss. Some of my friends even decal (successfully) right over the s-g paint without a gloss coat.
thx all for your comments, but the paints i’m talking about aren’t the “regular” GS AH paints. The Mr Color’s paints I have (Luftwaffe colors) have a kind of “twisted cap” .
Yesterday I mixed about 50%-50% paint-lacquer thinner and I got a mess!!
A kind of “sugar cotton candy” besides paint adhered to the spare model I practiced on.
I don’t know if I have to try 20%-80% pait-thinner ratio. I tell you later the results.
Regards
I thin my GS paints with WIndex and a drop of Liquitex flow aid.
GS paint, particularly lacquer requires more thinner (if you’re using the appropriate GS thinner) than enamel and acrylics. Otherwise, you clog your airbrush and you make a mess. Had that many times. In my experience, it’s better to over-thin the paint (which it hardly ever does) than to “under-thin” it. What’s good about these paints is I can re-use them even after being thinned. I just have to thin them a little less than previously. I don’t follow a strict ratio paint mix. Using them often will give you a good feel of thinning GS lacquer paint.
Thanks Joel,
I made an 20-80% mix paint-thinner and it worked! Since most of the time I’d using MM-Tamiya paints I didn’t change the ratio. Now I wrote a note on my desk about this ratio thinning for this GS paints.
Thanks
