Hard to see the fine detail of this kit in these flash shots but its really a nice little kit. I’ve painted the top surface with Polly Scale RAF Dark Green which is a very close match to the color called for at IPMS Stockholm’s color reference site for Finnish A/C. The belly is painted Polly Scale RLM 63 which also seems to be a good match for the early Finnish light gray.
I still have to add many odds and ends including the horizontal stab bracing wires, guns, and pitot tube. I managed to break the little window behinf the main canopy during final sanding of the fuselage and failed at several attempts to make a replacement. In the end I just filled it with strip plastic, rescribed the window area and am painting it Chrome Silver. A big disapointment caused by me and not the kit. Final weathering and decaling to go. I may get it done next week.
Looks smooth, Joe[8D]. As someone from the land of Fokkers [;)], I always like to see a D-21. Looks like a wonderful kit, especially considering its scale! I’m very much looking forward to your pics of the fin(n)ished plane[:D] (cracking myself up here)[:o)]
Good looking build so far. Shame about the broken glass. Are you going to paint the black disruptive camo or leave it overall green? I have the 1/72 MPM kit and was disappointed that it didn’t have the skis found on many Finnish D-21’s. Still deciding if I want to scratch build those or just stay with it OOTB. Looking forward to pics of the finished model. Keep em coming.
Thanks a lot guys…I too was very disapointed that skis were not provided. I built the pioneer kit some years ago and I believe it had skis. I’m doing Finnish aces Servanto’s a/c as it appeared in the early spring of 1940…just green topsides and light gray belly with a black rudder. Not an exciting scheme but I was fascinated by the story of him shooting down six of seven bombers in this a/c on a single mission. His a/c did have the skis on at that time so my model would have to represent a period a couple of months later.
