MPC Pilgrim Observer

Hello. I was asked if I’d be willing to show some of my work. As a new forum member I’m limited to one picture per post. So I’ll do a few individual posts to showcase some of the models I’m happy with!

MPC put this “Pilgrim Observer” kit out during America’s love of space exploration. It was a fictional mission, but MPC included a ‘mission book’ and a t-shirt iron-on transfer of the mission patch. These were included in the kit.

I got it form EBay, and it had been partially assembled and painted. The glue was so old most of the assemblies popped apart, so I smoothed what I could and reassembled. I didn’t really like the gaudy paint-scheme the box proposed; I decided on more of a ‘bare metal/minimum paint’ method. Although this photo shows everything ‘closed up’, I can remove the front clam-shell doors and move the antennae and telescope inside. I can also unfold the three habitat-arms and extend the boom holding the nuclear engine. In these configurations the model won’t fit on it’s stand though.

There’s also a PE set for this kit from Paragrafix.

Veedubb67, I looked at that link. That would add some serious detail and finesse to the kit! I’ve never used any PE parts, but I’d like to learn.

Paragrafix’s PE sets are great and definitely add realism to your models. Lots of videos out there showing how to use PE.
