Has anyone built the old MPC 1/72 A/B-26 Invader? How does it compare to the Airfix kit? I realize both kits are a hundred years old, but there’s not many choices out there.
I wish someone would put out a new, state-of-the-art 1/72 kit of it.
Thanks,
Scott
I built the Airfix 1/72 A-26C kit a number of years ago and don’t recall any fit or other
problems with it. It was pretty light on interior detail. I did it in a NMF. Last I knew,
it was still residing in the model case at the Travis AFB Museum.

I may be wrong but I believe the MPC kit is the Airfix kit.
I think “Hoot” is correct. I remember building the MPC kit over 30 years ago.
It was covered with fist sized rivets and needed two hundred pounds of lead shot in the engine cowls and nose to keep it from becoming a taildragger. Since then I have seen a few built up into really nice models. One in particular comes to mind. The chap who built it used very subtle variations of black on various panels and did a fabulous job on the exhaust stains to represent a Korean War night intruder. Wish I had a photo to post.
Special Hobby is supposed to be releasing a 1:72 version of the A-26 sometime latter this year. I saw some hints of this on a few German modelling websites. Hope it’s true!I’ve been waiting for a decent Invader for quite a while[:)] Frank
A new A-26 would be a very welcome addition to the hobby store shelves. They would probably disappear rather quickly.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the feedback.

The MPC and Airfix kits are the same. I’m in the process of building 3 of them…I love this plane!
Kagemusha,
You’re fortunate to have found 3 of them. They seem to be pretty scarce lately. They are also commanding premium premium prices on Ebay.
It is truly an awesome plane!

I believe all MPC aircraft kits are Airfix kits.
