…what aged armor kit, in your opinion, has weathered the years and is still being made into finished models that are up to today’s standards???

My vote: the Tamiya line of T-34s in 35th…
Italeri’s Jeep kit.
Tamiya’s 88mm gun or Italeri’s Crusader III.
Possibly so, Manny…but the tracks don’t hold paint at all! The molding IS decent though.
I think Tamiya’s modern Leopard line and variants are some of the nicest “old” kits out there today. Last year I built the A3 basically OOB and was very pleased with it!
“edit” OOPS! – yes, it was the “A4” model that I built too, not the “A3”!
Funny, I’ve just now got the second color on a Tamiya Leo 1A4, and have all the pieces in one box, Friuls together, for a Tamiya T-34, M1943…Both well-engineered for their time, no major issues, decent detail, enjoyable builds.
My contribution to the thread, however, would be one of two: Italeri’s Sherman, and Tamiya’s M48. Both are good enough IMO, to use as the basis for good models. They each have their issues, but what kit in this category doesn’t?
1/35 Italeri M47 Patton tank!
I disagree about the Tamiya 8.8cm Flak 36/37. For the time, it was stellar. But in comparison to the DML ones and in comparison to real guns, it misses on many levels.
Italeri’s Mk IV series. Between all the different variants it makes and all its’ great details, it still builds into quite a looker.
…my second vote is the Tamiya M113 line…
…going back to an earlier comment on vinyl tracks: I don’t expect that any of the “aged” kits will hold up in this area to today’s standards, but many kits that fall into this category will ONLY need track replacements to be made into a GOOD model…
Never built it, but Ive heard great things about the Tamiya T-55.
I’ll second that about the Ital M47! Even the vinyl tracks on this kit are pretty good and AM tracks aren’t necessary! It can be built OOB and with a little TLC turn out really nice.
…it is an OUTSTANDING kit but only a few years old…so it better be!!! LOL
My vote goes to the original Tamiya Tiger. Mainly for nostalgia but hey, it’s difficult to get a Tiger wrong, isn’t it?
A third vote for the Italeri M-47. I think it’s a great old kit.
Correct, but as the original posts states: which aged kit still holds up and can be built to represent one of today’s standards? I think it still does with some TLC. It’s not on par with DML or AFV, for it’s some 30 years older. However when finished it still can produce a very fair replica.
point taken tigerman. That Tamiya flak gun was awe-inspiring to the 13 year old modeller that I was!
Along these lines then, I’d say that several other tamiya products hold up very well
SdKfz 232 8rad
Sdkfz 221/222 (maybe)
Krupp Protze
Italeri RSO Tractor
Italeri CWT15
Krupp Protze…now that brings up memories…anyone ever still see it for sale?
Ebay can get you the one towing a pak for around 20-25 usually. I plan on getting one plus the Eduard photoetch set, that looks beautiful.
Muahahahaha the secret’s out! Now we can all quote Manny!
I have to agree withe Herr Manstein’s opinion on the lowly jeep. I can not remember another manufacturer making a jeep except Tamiya. I mean the WWII jeep and not the ones of Academy (post WWII versions)

My choices would be Tamiya M113 Series and T-34 series. Those kits are old and yet still (imo) hold their own grounds.
