Most modeled aircraft

Just curious. What do you guys think is the most modeled aircraft now or in the past? P-51? F-14? F-4 Phantom? Spitfire?
Dana

do you mean most different kits available for different manufacturers, variants, scales, etc?
or do you mean the plane that has been built the most?
(or kit sold the most units)

i would think the P-51.
in the States, anyway.
our friends across the pond likely prefer the Spitfire.

I meant the most kits, variants etc. The kit that over the years has the greatest demand and thus has sparked so many companys to produce so many different kits and variants.

Oh, and I’m not give those four as the only possibilities…those were the ones that just came to mind first.

I would think that it would come down to one of 3 aircraft: the Bf-109, P-51, and the Spitfire. There are amazing amounts of variations for the 1st and 3rd, and just the sheer popularity of the Mustang. Anybody care to do a rundown of the models available?

I don’t know about others but I’m sick of hearing about the fifty million FW-190 and ME-109 kits out there. There are so many planes that don’t have good representation or representation at all. I always liked the northrop M2F-2 and M2F-3 yet only expensive multi-media kits seem to exist.

More p-51 mustangs than any other subject. (includes cars, armor, ships etc.)

I have to agree with you plum. FW-190’s, been done, how 'bout a new mold F-15C with proper engraved panel lines, insted of just putting a new set of wheels with an old A mold. Since the Gulf War the F-15E has gotten some attention, how 'bout the guys flying cover. Bob

The Bf-109, for sure!

dj - you’re just saying that to be contrary! [;)]

[:)]Hi everyone.

I was discussing this topic with a friend just yesterday. We came to the conclusion that the “most produced” aircraft kits were the Bf109 and the Spitfire.

But what jets? Our vote went to the F-4 Phantom [8D]

I will have to say in order, Spitfire, P-40, P-51 and BF-109. I built a P-40 as my first kit, long before a model of the P-51 came out.

For Jets, F-4 and Mig 21.

Well, for prop aircraft, the 109 has it hands down as most produced from what I’ve seen.

In jets, the F-4 is definitely up there as is the F-86 Sabre

I’m still waiting for something trully DIFFERENT to land on hobby shop shelves.

I don’t do much WWII at all, but if there was one thing above others I’d like to see kitted from that time period, it would be a 1/48 or 1/32 Petlyakov PE-2.

When it comes to jets, I have for too many in mind to mention here.

There must be more variants of the 109 than any other A/C. But I bet more folks have P-51s on their shelves than any other A/C, especially here in the U.S.

I’d have to say the BF109 is the most produced model out there, you go Hobbycraft that did the B to the E-7 (that’s about 10)and they also did some of the F’s & G’s too, Hasegawa ran a bunch of E’s, F’s, G’s(that’a another 10), Revellogram ahs E’s & G’s(thats 2), Tamiya has a few too, as for Fujimi they also ran o few too, so about 20 to 30 BF109 kits are out there to the 25 or so of the P-51’s

As far as I know the Bf109 would win hands down. The kits range from the …Awful to the excelent and in just about any scale you can think of.
The Spitfire would come a close second. Although I havn’t seen a kit of the Spiteful yet.
The top US a/c would be the P51. But there would probably be aalmost as many P40s out there.
Well thats my 2 Bobs worth.
