Good question, because I myself haven’t built a Russian tank in some time. I’ve heard that Model Master’s is a very good match.
I use Tamiya Field Gray (XF-65?). It’s a good match and I’ve seen other modellers using it for russian tanks. HTH
I used ModelMaster Russian Armor Green for my T-34. I’m not sure how it exactly compares to Tamiya greens. On the other hand, as I understand about the supply situation in the USSR during the Great Patriotic War, there really wasn’t a true standard armor green, in the sense that different paint suppliers, supplied green paint to the Soviet Army that was of different shades. Added to the different orginal paints, you have the effect of weathering, dirt, etc, add you can probably paint your Soviet tank any semi-plausible looking green.
I will check out the xf65. thanks for the info guys

I just use whatever green I have available – of late, http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=TS1715 , though I darken this a bit randomly for each kit.
The old R-O-T was that Pullman Green was as good a Russian green as any. They weren’t picky.
Italeri recomended MM 1710 (FS 34079) for their kit of the T34/76 1943 that looked ok to me but i aint no authority.
like ABARNE, i use the MM Russian Armor green as well… pretty dead-on accurate IMHO…
Check out Nicola Cortese’s book on modeling IS tanks, which he put out in the Osprey modeling series. He has a bit of a discussion of the various colors that you can use for Soviet armor green. It’s also a fun book with some interesting techniques that Nicola has picked up from the other wonks on Missing Lynx. His models look great and he’s a nice fellow too.
