I broke the MG rail around the TC hatch so I made a new one out of a PE fret that was the same size. Those frets always seem to come in handy for something along the line.
I also had no luch with the posts on the exhaust cover. There was alot of clean up to do on them and they just were not strong enought o handle it , so I made new ones. Used pieces of straight pins cut 5mm each. Was a painful task to get them to stand up but it worked in the end.
Couple showing the test run of the tracks and the base paint on.
As you can see the top of the hull does not fit on the bottom what so ever. There was nothing I could do to fix it with out drastically changeing the whole front of the hull so I am haveing to rethink my plans for this one. Good thing it has an interior. Any comments welcome. Thanks.
Looks like your left track is on wrong. I’ve also had that hull problem with my Academy early Tiger. But I dont think it was as bad as yours. I did some sanding and rearrange my ammo shells aliitle fixed my problem. if your hull top is warp you can straighten it out in some very hot water. Your interior looks great. Out side looking good so far also.
Chris, is this the Academy kit?. It looks like you’ve got some major fit up issues there my man. I can’t recall anyone having these kind of problems. Wow, what are you planning on to fix it? Your zim looks really good and I know you’ve got a lot of work into it, but this just doesn’t look like an easy fix from these pictures. It looks like the entire right side hull plate is too low, I’m noting the mismatch to the hull front armor plate.
The track may be on wrong, was basically just test fitting and getting the right number of links in place.
It is the Academy kit. Mid version to be exact. I found the problem when I was dryfitting it prior to putting on the zim. I have looked at about every angle on fixing the fit problem but looks liek there is no solution. The problem is basically with the transmission cover and the front glacius. The are about 1/16" to high or so and because the driver port is made like it is, I can’t take any off the bottom and because of the MG ball I can’t take any off the top. I’m just going to keep on trucking on it and change my plan of display. Luckily it has an interior which gives some good options.
They seem to be hit an dmiss for some reason. I have some tell me thiers went together perfect and others have said they had the exact same problem and had to display it with the top off.
Ok i had a problem with the transmission cover also. I Sand it down used a hot knife also to trim it up a bit, before i could get it to fit right with the front glacius plate. Then I still had a little space between the two i filled in with putty. I agree with the hit and miss on these kits.
I don’t do “surgery”, sanding, filling, just OOB, I’m not at that level yet, (don’t want to be at that level, too much work) but besides I leave the top off so ‘we’ can see the interior.
Gee Chris I’m sure sorry to see the problem you’re having with the hull mating, you’ve done such a beautiful job up to this point. I wish I could offer more then hope that you’ll find a way to solve your delimma. As Crockett, stated, why don’t you contact Academy customer service, and give them the run down on your problem. They just might send you a replacement. www.modelrectifier.com Good luck. Semper Fi, mike
