More Progress on the Corsair II

Not too much more, but here’s a new pic of the latest work I got done on this lovely schooner.

I painted the cabins so far, and then added more of the detail parts to the main deck. I believe all of them are installed and painted now. I also built the masts as well. The only thing I think I have left to do are the lifeboats and davits and rigging.

I haven’t cemented the deck cabins down yet, nor have I cemented in the masts. They are all temporarily assembled for this pic:

Now I need to get a few more colors to help detail this thing out, as well as finish painting it. That’s where it stands until then. Thanks for looking in everyone! Any comments are welcome.

looks great to me although i’m not really a ship guy,but nontheless looks good can’t wait to see more

The model looks beautiful. Can you tell us what colour you painted the deck? What colour should the funnel be? I will soon be doing this kit and am extremely interested in your progress photos. Robert

Looking very nice so far! I also have this kit, and am intending to convert it to its later incarnation as the gunboat USS Gloucester. The Corsair II was requisitioned by the USN during the Spanish-American War and converted to a gunboat. I think it remained in service until WW1. The conversion should be fairly straightforward, mostly just scratchbuilding the armament (6pdr and 3pdr guns plus some MGs).

Thanks Robert. The deck color is Testor’s Raw Sienna, and I’m thinking about doing a light wash of a darker brown over it to try and give it a more wood-grain-type of appearance. The funnel, according to the instructions and enclosed reference photos is supposed to be a light tan. I’m going to be trying to look this up and see if there are any color photos of this or other color photos of models of this ship to see what looks best and what colors I’ll need to purchase. I do need more colors which is why I stopped here.

Thanks again for the compliment Robert!
