I got a bit of work done this weekend.
The decals on the Polikarpov I-153 were touched up with a #000 brush. These were translucent when I applied them.

When I went to remove the resin aileron actuators from the pour stub, I heard a ZING, and there was no more actuator (insert choice words here). I made replacements from wedges of scrap resin, wire, and tube. I actually like the looks of these better than the resin ones.
The tail was painted with Model Master Insignia Red. The entire airframe was sprayed with Future as a primer for the Alcad Aluminum. A couple places were oversprayed with Dark Aluminum. I then mixed Gunze Clear Yellow with Future and Isopropyl Alcohol, and oversprayed the Aluminum.
There were reports of pilots seeing “gold-colored” Claudes. It is believed that the aluminum was coated with a varnish which yellowed. Some say it never existed at all. I don’t care. I like the way it looks !

Wow!!! I like it too, [:)], that’s going to be pretty man!
Thanks,
Take care,
Frank
It looks cool to me Pix. As always another great build in the making.

Oh yeah Pix… very cool effect. These two are going to look very cool. By the way… how did you get the halo effect around the green camo splotches on the I-153… or maybe I’m just seeing things.
Thanks Frank, dragonfly, and Adam !
I almost can’t wait to see the Hinomarus and stripes on the Claude. It will look VERY different next to my other stuff.
Adam - I’m afraid it a bit of overspray. Nearly impossible to avoid, and the reflections of the NMF makes it more visible. I’m hoping that my final clear coats eliminate it. If not, I have masks for the decals so I can respray the Aluminum.
Thanks again !
I wouldn’t change a thing Pix… it looks cool that way.
Lookin’ golden Pix. Nice stuff as always…
Fade to Black…
Thanks Adam and Steve-O !
Steve-O - it’s nice to know what you’re saying. Although a response with Japanese and Russian characters would be interesting . . . but I’d rather be able to read it !
Thanks again !
Excellent work Pix. The Claude should be a real stunner.
Regards, Rick
That’s a great effect you got with the Gunze Clear Yellow with Future and Isopropyl Alcohol. Just add some sugar, gum arabic, and lemon flavoring and you’ve got yellow Skittles.[:D]
pix again your work is outstanding. i never get tired of seeing what you are up to.

Thanks Rick, Quagmyre, and Joe !
Glad you like them so far.
They look great Pix. That Claude is gonna look awesome with meatballs on it. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks pingtang !
I started the decals today, and WOW ! They really add a lot to the visual impact of the Claude. I almost can’t wait to finish it !
Pix,
The opaque red looks great. I’ve had to do the same thing on a few kits - not because the red was transparent - but because the decals didn’t respond to a setting solution. I wound up picking at the loose parts and filling in with paint. Now I’m looking at a recent kit that needs to have the same thing done to a semi-transparent white decal. This could be a little more difficult.
Can’t wait to see Golden Claude - cool !
Chris
