I was browsing through evilbay hunting for any unwanted items I might snap up cheap and came across this. The bidder id look familiar and sure enough it is the same guy that payed $650.00 for the cutting edge PB4Y conversion by Cutting edge a couple of months ago. in yet another bidding war for a hunk of resin. Where will the madness end and common sense take over?
Well, the buyer did overpay a bit ($158.49) for a kit that retails for $79.99. There are A LOT of parts in it – probably around 100 give or take a couple. There are people out there who just think if they pay a lot for something, it has just got to be better. Then again, look at all of the Starbucks fans out there paying big bucks for coffee that really doesn’t taste much better than what Dunkin Donuts has.
Man, I’m with MFSOB!!! and starbucks… don’t get me started on those yuppies! They make coffee that costs them a few cents, and charge an outragious mark up, and people chug it down cause its got to be good! I wonder how many people drink it cause its starbucks, but yet, don’t think it tastes any better than the stuff you get at the gas station for 99 cents???
Sorry… back to your regularly scheduled thread [:D]
I’ve built that conversion before and it is a very nice set that covers the whole thing including new leading edges for the wing. I was a little gun shy of the $80 price tag when it was new but if your want a 1/48 scale Pedro you don’t have much choice.
Y’know,
$160 probably isn’t all that unreasonable a price for a full kit, a conversion set, AND the decals needed to complete an unusual subject…it seems like a fair bit, but when I added up the cost of my 1/48th P-51D project (resin engine/cockpit/wheels/flaps/spinner plus decals and PE) or the Accurate Miniatures B-25 and the resin wheels/cockpit/interior/decals needed for that, $160 isn’t really out of the realms of reality.
Just don’t tell the wife the true costs I paid for all these bits!!
I can’t stand Starbuck’s or Dunkin’ Donuts coffee - and it’s not just the awful, bitter taste. I can wait until I get to work, go to the cafeteria, and get a larger cup of coffee than a large from either of those places, and pay just $1.06. And it tastes way better.
I did a ‘study’ years ago - I was trying to save money, and I drank 2 or 3 medium cups of coffee from the cafeteria a day. I figured that if I just used instant coffee, I would save as much as $35 a month by not buying the coffee at work. That’s $420 per year. And that was back in 1990! Imagine what you could save over the prices at these places? Now I have a Black & Decker 1-cup coffee maker at my desk, and for one roughly 12-oz mug of coffer a day I buy a can of coffee every month or so. Still saving a lot. Too bad I never really see that money I save - I could have financed an outrageous workshop by now!
What gets me are people who pay those outrageous prices just to collect it. They let it sit on a shelf and never intend on building it, that really chaps my rear end. Thats just my two cents.
Good point. You wonder if they get caught up in the excitement of a bidding war and try to win just as a way of discouraging the other bidders. I won’t play that game. I go in with a set bid and if I win, I win. If I lose, I’ll try again later.
