Good morning all, as some of you may have read on my post regarding the F-15C that i have built. Ive been saved by a fellow member, the nose gear has been found! But as i patiently wait for the part to come, i have started on a Monogram-Revell F-14D Super Tomcat. I know some of you out there have built this. Did anyone else find that the fuselage was a complete pain to place together? Also, im about to attach the front gear doors, but as i placed it for fit, they just didnt want to seem to go. Anyone have any tips to help make this model fit together better? It seems like when i overcome one obstacle… theres another right behind it! Cheers!
Eddie M is building one right now and is following the instructions on how to from the article in FSM a couple months back. That is probably the best place to find the help your looking for.

Use clamps, lots of clamps!
Clamp top to bottom to insure the mating surfaces are in contact and clamp side to side to prevent buckling/spreading.
Oh yeah, have a large tube of putty for seam filling.
And have faith, you can build a very nice representation of the Tomcat!
Thanks for the help guys, i actually found an afticle called “Top Gun +20” on this site just now, its pretty informative too. If anyone else wanted to know the same as me. And one more thing… clamps… i know nothing about clamps… what sizes do you guys use and where do you get them?
well u can get Quick-grip in a pack of two for ten dollers at home depo i have a pare but i ues cloes pins most of the time
Get the Quick Grips. Clothespins won’t open wide enough for this application.
Allright then… looks like im headed to the ole home depot this weekend! One more question (maybe). Where can i find a better selection of decals for my Tomcat… im not too fond of the ones i have… not to mention that i spilled a little paint on one of the decals that goes on the intake!
Since some folks around her have been nice to me in recent times, I’d like to pay it forward. You can have the decals for the Black Lions/VF-213 if you would like. Let me know if you want them.[:)]
Also, be on the look out for the canopy fit. I ended up with a gap because I wasn’t paying attention to detail. Test fit those burner cans as well. I had to use a dremel tool to thin out the fuselage to get the cans to fit and line up properly. Good luck!

Awesome, thanks for the advise! And sure thing, id be more than appreciative to take those decals off you hands. Ill email you with my address. Thanks!
Hey, I’ve got those decals, also; a friend of mine used to be a TF-30/F-110 mechanic on the F-14A/B when they (and he) were stationed on the Connie, so I thought I’d build him a VF-213 'Cat.
And, WarEagle, one more thing: when I built my F-14A/D, I had problems with the fit of the intakes at the back; that article in Top Gun +20 is probably your best reference. As for the canopy, you might be better off posing it in an “open” position so you don’t have to worry about the fit.
Awesome info. Ive always been the type of modeler that likes to have the stationary look to my jets. Canopy open and all. Id like to have a nicer looking cockpit though, im not too thrilled with the cockpit that comes with the kit. Any reccomendations on where to kind a better cockpit?
I’ll be sending those out today. Sorry for the delay.
Eddie
