Here’s my progress on the F104. I’m trying a Acrylic Gloss Black instead of lacquer or enamel. I’m doing this for a couple reasons. In one post cs.finescale.com/…/162163.aspx, Neptun48 did a great job experimenting on several different primer coats for the Alclad. I liked the acrylic look, plus it cures much faster. Hopefully I can get the aluminum on this weekend.
Okay. Finally got around to uploading some pictures. I need to let the chrome silver for under the nav lights to dry anyway.
Here are the rocket motors drilled out, and completed with the bombs, and the launch points removed and installed under the wings.
The brittle plastic stymied me when trying to get the folding wings into the extended position; the little tabs broke off. As a result, I had to just but join them.
My second entry is completed. That means I will be a “MADE MEMBER” !!! Let the initiation begin!!!
Shot some Testors flat lacquer to kill the Future gloss. The Lozenge was a bit of a challenge cause those decals are over 25 years old and were very delicate. I had to use several craft acrylic colors to custom blend matching shades to touch up some decal parts that were either too short or just flaked after applying.
The bottom 1/8th trailing edge had to be painted to complete the pattern.
The scratch built cockpit improves the looks of this old Aurora/Monogram kit.
I shot the Alclad and it goes on nice. Went through a lot of it though.
Found out the prep work needs to be perfect. You can see every imperfection if it’s not.
I do not care for this kit or build. I’m missing the wheels and the decals are just coming apart. I applied some Micro Sol liquid decal film, but too late to save the US Air Force decal for the side. I bet I can find a replacement though. I don’t think I’ll waste the Aim 9’s and leave the racks empty.
Your Alclad on the 104 looks great. Any missing parts can be obtained from Revell/Monogram.
You may be able to save those decals if you brush on a product called Superfilm. It will keep your decals from fracturing. I had somewhat the same experience with the old lozenge sheet I used.
Modelcrazy, don’t get frustrated just yet! I have a couple of sets of aftermarket decals for the -104. If you’d like them, just say the word and I’ll send them to you gratis. Not only that, I won’t charge you anything. Let me know.
PJ that Fokker looks awesome! Congrats on being “made”. Modelcrazy you’re coming along nicely on the 104. I’ll eventually get around to building one myself, I’ve always liked that shape. Well I’ve been having problems with my iPad, and photobucket wouldn’t upload my pics. Got that fixed so here’s an update on my second build, the P-61. Enjoy
