I just wanted to know if the old Monogram kit of the M-8 Armored car is any good. I know Tamiya and Italeri have some more recent offerings [I have built the Italeri M-20] but I wondered if this one was any good.
Hmmm…the ol’ 1/32 M-8…I loved it back in the 70’s, but I don’t know how it holds up to today’s offerings.
It’s been so long, I can’t objectively remember how accurate or detailed it was!
Fond memories, though.
Gotta agree. These kits have a market primarily for the nostalgia value – many of us have great memories of building and painting them, and pouring over the diorama booklets you got in many (if not all) of the armour kits. I actually bought a Panzer IV on eBay just because I had such fond memories of building it the first time around. I’m not going to build it. I just take out the pieces and cry occasionally. [:p]
This one is on there as well. It’s only 5 bucks [plus $8 shipping] Oh well thanks guys. I will wait for a Tamiya ot Italeri kit to pop up!
I built many Monogram tanks when I was a kid and enjoyed them. The M-8 wasn’t among them, but my friend built it. I would get Tamiya’s, have heard only nice things about their kit. True, it does cost a couple dollars more, but it’s worth it.
Definitely. What a great model Tamiya’s M8 is.
I dont know about monograms kit but I just finished Tamiya’s M8 and it was pretty good but it could have had more interior detail and more figures
I built Monogram’s a few years back and the detail is very Spartan and soft. It’s 1/32nd scale as has been mentioned. I kept it in my model cabinet until I bought Tamyia’s offering. I’ve since given the Monogram to my nephew to play with.
Ahhhh…the old Monogram armor kits.
Boy I sure do miss them.
They were fun. They were cheap (realatively at the time).
I wish Monogram would have re-released the entire Pz IV line they had. I’d bought them. And had a great time tip-toeing through memory lane building them.
I’ll wait until the come up again. You never know. They did re-release the 232, both Shermans, the Weasel, the M20 and the M8. I’d even like to see the Grant and the Lee.
What about it Monogram??? Bring these classics back and put a $10 price tag on them for beginner modelers??? Include the diorama sheets too. Those inspired a whole generation of modelers.
They’d be perfect first armor kits.
I must admit I enjoyed them back then and just built their “Assault Panzer”. A Stug IV if I’m correct. It needed some work, but it built up just fine. Got it in the cabinet next to the “Screamin’ Mimi”. Great Idea Latch, they should bring em back for starters, get some of those youngsters away from video games for a while.
