So, I have finally finished my latest project: An old Monogram SB2C Helldiver in 1/48.

But seriously, I’ll keep an eye on this, I’ve got a couple of Hellcats in my stash, always interested to see how people handle that Pacific camo.

Well, it got through but when I tried to continue, I got this same photo again.
Any how, It was upgraded with an Aeromaster stencil set and a CKM resin engine. The base is Eduard’s carrier deck and I’m sure you all recognize Monogram’s deck hand from their Devestator kit.
It is painted with rattle cans, ModelMaster Dark Sea Blue, MM Intermediate Blue, Testors Flat White.
Hey, there it is, looks good. Now what about the transition between light & dark blue on the upper? How hard an edge is that supposed to be? I guess that’s what I was wondering about. I suppose it varied some from one to the other.
Did you build up the decking for the display too?
I saw several photographs that showed a fairly crisp edge between the colors. I will admit that my hope was the create a “foggy” transition but as you can see, that didn’t turn out for me.
OK, this thread needs to be changed to a “Have you ever encountered a photobucket anomaly where no matter how many times you change the photo being copied, you always get the initial photo”?
even with the hard edge, that may something that could be dry-brushed. I’ve got several 1/72 German a/c that I did that with. Sprayed the overall colours, top & bottom, then went back & dry-brushed the various splotches of colour that are in that transition area down the side. Using a basic rattle-can adaptors at the time, there was no way I would have wanted to spray those little 1/72 spots!
Well, it would seem the only way I am going to get a photo up is the do them in one “reply” at a time after backing totally out, clearing history, shutting down the system, and starting over.
Until things show a bit of easing up, these few pictures will have to suffice.

I like the way it turned out, PWB! I’ve got this kit in my stash, too, actually, the Nichimo copy of Monogram’s kit. I built this when I was a kid, and Chuck’s build blog last year made me track the kit down on eBay.
As to the tri-color camo scheme, I’ve seen photos supporting both a hard edge and a soft edge, so it’s one of those details for which you either have to check your sources, if you’re modeling a specific aircraft, or where you can claim license.
But regardless, you did a great job with this. The aftermarket parts just enhance your result, I think.

I think it looks great! BTW - is that the same kit I built as a kid that come with a mechanism for dropping the bomb? I spentmany happy hours dive bombing my mom’s cats with that one and the old SBD Dauntless with the same bomb dropping capability.
Also, if you used rattle cans to paint it - maybe you should change your screen name to “Sometimes Paints with Brushes”![:D]
Yes ‘jschelchty’, this kit does indeed have the swing down bomb trapeze.
Thanks ‘Baron’. I did make a bit of a flub on the motor by positioning it a tad too far forward within the cowl so the prop sticks out a bit further than it should.
Hey, PWB, looks good! Camo is good looking, despite the fact that you would have preferred a softer edge. As for your Photobucket issues, this happened to me the other day. Not sure why but I didn’t rack my brains over it much so its good to see some one else having the same problem. Lets me know I’m not crazy. Any how, if you copy the Image code (IMG Code) and paste it in the reply window you’ll notice that it contains the ‘image name’ within the code.

If you note the above code, the file name is ‘ironcleat’. This is the name I used when I saved the photo prior to uploading it. What was happening to me was it kept pasting this pic over and over again. So, to remedy this, I had to manually change the name within the code to display the other pics. For example, change ‘ironcleat’ to ‘ironcleat2’ and so on. As long as you know the file name, it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.
Hope that helps and hopefully Photobucket will straighten out…unless we’re doing something wrong, in which case I hope we straighten ourselves out!
Might wanna give those cannons a once-over… The muzzles (not the barrel jackets) should gunmetal rather than the blue/white scheme… Can’t do anything about itnow, but I noticed that you had a registration issue with the “Star & bars” too… Fairly common occurence with Monogram kits at times…
For Navy camo (and USAAF too), you might try to “stipple” the edge a bit more, using a “stabbing” motion with a brush that’s moistened with thinner… Or, if you wanna try going to a rattle can, it’s fairly easy to get a feathered edge by raising the demarcation edge of the tape off the surface just a skosh, leaving a gap between the tape and plastic… That’s what I do with simple camo schemes, rather than breaking out the airbrush…

The problem I am seeing is the number in the code. When I try to change that, it just puts a red dotted line under that portion of the code.
Perhaps photobucket is having a bit of a problem and it will be straightened out soon. If not, I’ll just put in a picture a day until i get them all up.
