Hi all, has anyone every built a 1/48 scale Monogram F-86 Sabre-jet. It looks to be around a 1975 kit. If so was it difficult or not and is it worth buying . thanks doc bailey
There is an example hanging in my airport lobby. The thing looks terrible!!! However, it wasn’t built well either, so that probably takes away from it. I have only built Academys 86, and it was good!!! Revellograms Sabre-dog is EXCELLENT!!! Sorry, doesn’t really help your ???
It’s not even close to being in the same league as the excellent Hasegawa or Academy kits, but if you like nostalgic builds it will satisfy your craving.

I’ve built the Monogram 1/48th F-86. For me it was a sweet build. No putty required, no warpage. IMHO,
equal to or better than Tamiya but then I like Monogram kits. The most bang for the buck in the entire
industry. For some the raised “panel lines” are a downside unless you consider that virtually all recessed
panel lines are about a scale inch wide and deep.

And most raised lines are about TWO scale inches wide and high[:P]
(I have no issues with raised lines, the argument just goes negatively for both raised and recessed)
As was stated, you can NOT beat Revellogram for “bang for the buck”[Y][Y][Y] Raised lines or not.
Revellogram Saber is a fun build! Yes, it is not up to current standards as far as detail is concerned but IIRC, it looks right when you are finished. I don’t remember any issues that weren’t caused by me and it is a fun build.
I built that kit when it was first released. Back then it was cutting edge state of the art. Monogram set the standards above contemporary Hasegawa, Revell or Tamiya kits of the same vintage. Now mind you the kit these days is dated compared to those coming out of the far east, but it is nothing to sneer at. It is accurately molded, fairly well detailed, and builds nicely. Old Hans is working on one here and I am sure he will be making another fin looking bird of this vintage kit. You will get your moneys worth out of it. I have on in my stash that I hope to tackle soon and use another technique I learned at a IPMS Chapter meeting that I learned from another member to deal with the raised panel lines in a novel manner. If you ahve the extra money, go for Hasegawa, want midrange, try Academy, or for a bargian, give Revellograms Sabre a shot. Italeri’s is a rebox of the old ESCI kit with a pirce increase that does not match its quality. Not as well detailed interior, gear wells, speed brake bays, etc, but it does have recessed panel lines.
Here Doc, Hasegawa F-86 at a Monogram price, and the guy isn’t even gouging the shipping, but watch out for the last minute bidders. Rick
