What can you guys tell me about this kit? It’s the 1/48 century seris kit. Will I be spending more time filling and sanding than actully building?
Well, it has raised panel lines, fairly accurate outline, good interior considering it’s age, some minor fit problems but nothing major. Biggest problem I had was was getting the canopy to fit properly, but that could have been me. Been a while since I built one, but thats the best I can recall.

Let me put it this way: I have built one in the past and have since stocked up on two more[:D]. It’s the only game in town to do a quarter scale Dagger, and it’s a great kit. Optional opened missile bay and airbrakes, access ladder etc. I can recommend the current rebox by Revell (Germany), #04586 which includes an astonishing decal sheet to make either:
F-102A, 525 FIS, Bitburg AB 1960 or
F-102A, 118 FIS Connecticut ANG, Bradley International airport 1968.
Go on, get yourself a few of these kits before they disappear off the shelves again. The resulting model sure is more impressive than Hasegawa’s 1/72 model at about the same price!
Thanks for the info guys.

Having been a Crew Chief on the F-102A at Soesterberg AB, Netherlands and at Tyndall AFB, Fl in the early and mid '60’s, I couldn’t wait for the first release of the F-102. I jumped on them and got several of the first releases which had the Case XX wing. I had to modify them into the Case X wing to model the ones I worked on. They later released the kit again, this time with the Case X wing.
I have built several of them. I still have one of the first releases which has the Case XX wing and several with the Case X wing.
Do your research when building them. Prior to '60-'61 they did not have the IR bubble on the nose. After '64 a data link antenna was added just behind the tail hook.
The only problems I had was getting the missile bay doors to fit correctly. The kit includes three missile launchers retracted, three extended, or the door to be closed. Buy two or more kits so you can position all six launchers extended or retracted. It is too bad no one has released the doors or AIM-26 launchers, as a lot of units had them.
All in all, it is a great kit and fun to build. Be careful when bending the MLG torque link as you can break them.
