Just in case you don’t frequent the Group Build forums, I will post a few pics here! This is Monogram’s Devastator done up in the scheme of George Gay- the only surviving member of Torpedo 8 from Hornet after the attacks at Midway.
And lastly a shot from the front showing off the torpedo nose art…
Thanks guys!! It was one of my most challenging builds to date- but I am glad it came out as it did-- a little rough around some edges- but that’s Monogram for you [:D]
Good one, Mike…
I remember that kit - it had a fantastic brochure with a Shepherd Paine dio in it…a downed Devastator and the pilot was helping the wounded gunner into the life raft…
man - that brings back some good memories - thanks for that!
Fantastic job there, George Gay’s ride huh, my oh my oh my!
The only thing that I could see was that the antenna wire was apparently missing (I may have missed it anyway). But other than that, it’s a fantastic job. You really done good.

It’s there, it really is there, but it is faint. You can see it (at least I could) the antenna wire plus the wire going up to the antenna wire.
Hey there, IT’S REALLY THERE!(he said loudly)
Beautiful! I have a partially finished Monogram TBD myself but am going to have trouble finishing as I am missing some canopy pieces, the flaps, the torpedo and the rear gun. I guess that happenss after you pull out old builds from storage. I also have to re-decal as now I know about future!
Lee-- That sounds cool!! Mine just came with a book on all the Pacific dive and torpedo bombers from the Detail and Scale series…wish I had the Paine booklet instead LOL
Johan-- Yes sir-- 1/48…
John-- I appreciate the comment-- there sure aren’t a lot of builds of this one out there are there?
mucker-- Sorry bud-- here is a little bit more closeup-- I have yet to master this camera’s Macro though…
Swanny-- I would love to see your take on this build.
vance-- it is there…you can barely see it in the second pic-- I use 4 lb fishing line so it is a bit faint.
Thanks to you Thad, jboutin, and Dave! Glad to have this one behind me [;)]
