Monogram 1/48 T-28

Well, I’ve wanted to build a T-28 forever but I don’t really like doing the toy-like kits much. So, for this kit I went ahead and got the resin cockpit and scratch-built the rest. This build was to learn to work with making resin stuff fit in the plastic so I don’t think there is a more worthy subject. Well, I’m sure there are but this was a big step for me. Except for the pit being a lot nicer than the junky kit pit, I didn’t really put that much into it and it was kind of messy so I closed the canopy. I found a similar wheel well for the front and boxed in the rear. No detail though. I found better (but not accurate) wheels and ordered decals as I really like the engine gray/yellow drone controllers. Doing a Bearcat in the scheme as well. For the engine, I cut out the molded in version and thinking it looked a lot like a T-6 Texan engine, I tossed one in. Also cut off the kit exhaust and put new ones in. Pics are with my camera phone as I don’t have a camera available at the moment so they aren’t too great.

This is a subject that has been long neglected by model mfrs. T-28s are very popular Warbirds…dozens appear at AirVenture each year. But you better have deep pockets…these things gobble up lots of oil. We’re not talking a couple quarts…think in terms of 5 gal buckets!

Looks good from here Chris. I would really like to see a modern tooled kit of this aircraft with all the bells & whistles.

Thanks Rick. I’d love to see a new kit as well, by Tamiya maybe. Just like gerald said, they are always at air shows and in a lot of beautiful color schemes. Someday maybe.

Very nice work and a great scheme.

Really nice job!!

whether the engine or wheels are accurate or not, to me is not a concern, I look at it, I see a T-28. In a really cool paint scheme too!

Nice to see old kits made presentable.

Thanks for sharing.

WTG bringing out a Classic Monogram bird… Looks outstanding…

Beautiful work on the old vintage Monogram kit. The paint job is spectacular.
