Just picked this one up yesterday for cheap (3$) and I’m curious on how accurate it is. I know that it represents an UH-1C belonging to the USMC (I thought theirs was the UH-1E?) other than that I don’t know anything about it. Any comments here? Good? Bad? Ugly? A waste of three bucks? I remember doing it years ago, but I don’t recall how the build went.
Model more closely resembles a B model than a C, Early E models did resemble a B while later ones resembled the C. Will need the Cobra Company conversion to make an accurate C, some conversion will be needed to make an E. Also weapons supplied in kit are Army type and not accurate for Marine type. With some research and work it can be made into a decent model
Thanks for the info. If I leave the grenade thumper off the nose, it could still pass as a B? Does anybody make AM decals for a B?
Could have the thumper on nose of either B or C. Super Scale used to make decals for that kit, don’t know how avialalbe they would still be, could try shopping around for them, think they did two or three different sheets including one with markings for the Sea Wolves. also I think there is another company out there making decals fro Army Huey’s that could be used.
Roadkill,
The rotor head would be wrong for a B model as the kit has the 540 rotor system of the Charlie model but not the extended cord and camber of the vertical fin. The kit requires some work no matter the model you decide to build.
If you can find the old 1/48th scale Fujimi or Aurora UH-1 kits you can use the main rotors from the for a B model
I think I’ll do it OOB and not worry about the inaccuracies. I have found that more and more I’m obsessing with the accuracy issue and as a result I’m not getting anything done. So maybe I’ll just do this one “for fun” and maybe it’ll be the start of me getting more kits done.
Sounds like a good idea! I have two I started years ago trying to make them accurate and haven’t finished either one!
Clear Left!

Nothing wrong with a fun build either
AMEN! Thats what I plan on doing with my ‘first’ 1/35 Hook…just for fun w/ a few MINOR things and a swell paint job of course.
Good luck on that huey…I think that was my 4th or 5th kit I ever built around 1975 or so?
Yes, this kit is a “fun” build if you just want to do a OOB. I did mine up as such with the old Superscale sheet in 1st Air Cav markings. It’s certainly worth $3 for just that build.
3 bucks is a steal [^]
