Monogram 1/48 F-8E Crusader **WIP** Part II The Scribe.

Here is another update on my Crusader. Sorry it took so long. This re-scribe took a lot longer then I had expected. There is way more panel line and rivet detail than my last Gunfighter. No problems encountered and I think it came out pretty good. I also believe I am getting way to adicted to scribing. I think my next project will be a kit with recessed panel lines… I need a break. [(-D]

Without further adue here are some pictures for you progress hounds. [:D]

Enjoy,

Air Master

You did a great job [tup] If I send you one of my kits would you scribe the lines for me LOL [:D]

I can not tell that you did them it looks that good.

Roy

Very even widths and depths, looks very good.

Jeaton, Thanks for the compliment! I think I’ve finally got my scribe technique down to a science.[:D]

Wyo,

My scribe technique is very easy to learn. I made my own scribe tools from safety pins, sewing needles and even small nails and fitted to a Testors X-acto blade handle that acts as a pin vice. Also I use a jewlers file technique I picked up from a member here last year.

My technique involves using the raised panel lines as the guide, I simply scribe along the raised panel lines free hand with no ruler or any scribing template. I wear an Opti Visor to to see up close and make sure I am cutting starter lines straight. I make first cuts with a #11 X-Acto blade and follow this up with needles in pin vice to widen lines and get my depth then switch to jewlers files to dig out the lines while being careful not to dig to deep. I follow this up with a chisel blade and scrape away the raised detail leaving only the recess lines I scribed and sand the surface with 400 grit sand paper then smooth it out with a finger nail buff sticks to remove scratches left from sanding. After this is done I putty over any mistakes and re-sand and smooth. I’ve been using this technique for almost a year now and with great results. The trick is to work slowly and just scribe a little bit at a time. Patience is a MUST for this.

Air Master

Excellent job of scribing, Very nicely done.

Regards, Rick

The scribed lines look very well indeed. Consistant and clean. Nice work!!

Jerry

Air,

After reading the description of your method it’s pretty obvious that it would require a ton of patience and work, but the results speak for themselves. Very nice job !

Chris

Thanks for the how-to. I will give it a try. Again outstanding work.

Roy

Guys,

Thank you for the compliments, they are much appreciated.[:D]

Air Master

Lookin’ good Air Master… you are off to a good start.

BTW you know about the Tinker show June 9-10 right?

Thanks for the kind words Zone. Yes, I am aware of the Tinker AB Air Show and unfortunatly the Blue Angels won’t be preforming due to what happened in SC. Just to see the Blue Angels would have been my only reason to go. Maybe next year after I’ve moved to KY I can catch an Air Show there.

Air Master

Outstanding work once again. From now on, you shall be known throughout the Kingdom as the Royal Scribe![swg]

Eddie
