I love it.Sleek …Dirty and Utterly convicing.What else could a guy want??
Great looking Gustav Steve. You really should consider doing more builds as you are very talented. I was doing research a few years ago and came across a reference that said there were three types of exhaust used on the Gustave, Two piece cast iron, One piece cast iron and Stamped sheet metal. I would assume the two piece was welded together and the stamped was crimped?
Thanks for your comments guys…
To answer some questions:
The markings are late-war pro-allied Romanian, after they had switched sides. It should actually have white wingtips, but I didn’t know this until a few years after the thing was built! (and I knew a certain someone over on another forum would just HAVE to point that out…) I suppose I should really go back and add 'em…
Uhh… oh, the idea for tricking the eye. To make it look as though the control surfaces are deflected slightly, I darkened them up a bit with the pastels. I tried the same idea on another model but darkened one aileron and lightened the other to give the impression that one was up and the other down. Like this 109, that other attempt failed miserably, to my eye at least.
These days, if I ever finish anything, I’ll try this idea yet again but with paint.
Roadkill, that’s interesting you mention about different exhausts on the 109. The thought that this might be so had crossed my mind, but I’ve yet to come across any references which explain or even mention this. Most of the photos I have which clearly show the exhausts seem to be of the welded variety but I do have one which seems to have no nuthin’ there at all. As to the stamped variety, I’d think they would weld it, but I confess almost total ignorance in this area.
