Gorgeous - great job breaking up a rather monolithic design. How big is that kit?

Thanks for the comments. The model is about 13 inches long. I thought about beating it up more, like I did with the Viper, but looking at images of it in the third and fourth seasons, a lot of the damage has been caused by nukes and other explosions, so there’s surface damage and more work than I can do for a review model. So I’m saying it’s as it was shortly before being refitted as a museum (hence no windows in the starboard landing bay). I’d like to build another one an light it.

You and me both. This kit is in the same (1/4105) scale as the original so they’d look good together on a shelf.
Now what I really want is a Raptor from the new show!

I’d like to see how you went about the paint scheme.
Awesome build. I have the viper but haven’t started it yet. I need to pick up a couple of mini rocker switches for the lighting I am going to put in it. I also have one of the last releases of the original Viper from the 1978 show, and two of the original raiders. The Galactica is a really involved kit by the look of it.
Personally I didn’t like the new show. It was just too weird… Then again, That’s Ron Moore… I think the thing I liked about the first Galactica was that it looked just futuristic enough that it could be believable. The new one just seems incomplete. Like half her hull is gone, leaving the inner hull exposed. Great if you like detail, but just kind of odd to me.
Are you going to do the Raider when it comes out, or the Cylon baseship?
The paint job is really simple. Lots tiny rectangles of Tamiya masking tape put on over layers of gray shadesbased on Model Master enamel dark gull gray. When I say simple, I mean the concept is simple. In practice, and on deadline, it’s really pretty boring and tedious, but I think the result was well worth it.

I love the new show. (Also enjoyed the old show although it looks a little campy after all this time. Great ships though.) Based on my experience with the Viper and the Galactica, I plan to build any BSG related kit that comes from Moebius. I’ve seen testshots for the Raider and the Viper Mk.VII, and both look terrific. It’s a great time to build science fiction models.

Nice “aztecking” on the paint scheme! You did exactly what I’ve always thought would be the best way to achieve it, even though labor-intensive.
Makes me nostalgic for the old one I built back in the 70s, though, I think it was by Monogram.

Yup. Monogram. The first released was the old Raider, then the Viper a week or so later, then the Galactica and Cylon Basestar. I had two Galacticas (One was battle-damaged as the Pegasus.), a Basestar, a full squadron of 10 vipers and also 6 raiders. Walking into my room was like walking into the London Blitz… You really had to watch your head since I had them all hung in formation. LOL

Wow What a rocking great job- I’m an absolute fanatic for the series (both old and new after all these years LOL) I had in mind doing BSG just about the way you have here. I’ll hold off for the kit review and continue to plan my attack on the kit - I might get a second and do battle damage- any tips on that???

Thanks, man! I thought I remembered it. Yes, I had the Raider and the Viper–remember the operating “photon torpedo” or whatever-the-heck Belisario chose to call it? Rubber-band operated, if I remember correctly. And absolutely no interior; you just painted the canopy black. But I recall at the time that they sure looked like the “real” thing to me. I never got the base star, though; I had moved on to AMT “Star Wars” kits by that time. I’d like to build them again today, as well as the original Enterprise, as plain as she was, compared to subsequent versions.
As to the ceiling diorama, I hear ya! Mine was the Monogram large bomber kits, 2 B-17s, 2 B-24s, and the B-29, the P-51B chasing away the really old Me-109 kit, and a couple of C-47s dropping those excellent paratrooper figures, each with his own tissue-paper chute. And the Monogram USN aircraft were displayed on a bookshelf carrier deck. Ah, those were the days!
