It’s a basic kit 7 parts including the stand, 1 red LED, and a set of decals.

The detail looks good at 1st glance. Crisp molding and details. So far I see no sinkmarks or undermolding.

The faceplate main inner surface has a slight texture that looks like brushed metal. It’s very fine and will probably disappear with painting.

The 2 clear lenses look good, no obvious flaws. The decals are basic and look nicely printed. There is the large HAL logo along with lens details.

There is no battery case, the instructions suggest using double sided tape and sticking it on the back.

Overall it looks like a simple kit that was well done.

Painting will take the most time.

If I can figure out what to do with it, I’d build one. Maybe a wireless remote motion detector to alert me when unwanted visitors are approaching the workshop?

Is the light programmed to run some sort of sequence, or is just manually turned off and on?

It looks like its just on/off.

The 1st thought I had was to build my ring into it and mount it by the front door.

Can’t tell how big it is but you might be able to fit an arduino or raspberry pi into it. They have motion detectors for the arduino.

That’s friggin’ cool!!! I scratchbuilt a HAL camera years ago but it looked like krap.

I started HAL, even though I’m working on 3 other kits.

Washed everything, primed with Tamiya grey primer.

Masked the frame and some Tamiya semi-matt black:

It looks nice, gloss would have been too much I think.

The instructions say “gunmetal” for the speaker grill. Regular gunmetal looks too dark. I used Tamiya TS-42 light gunmetal.

I think it looks correct.

Gloss aluminum for the base ring and flat black for the eye.

That is just a dry fitting.

I think I’ll spray the frame gloss aluminum also.

HAL is done.

The only modification I made was to add a picture hanger to the inside/top.

I used all Tamiya rattlecans to paint HAL. The frame and outer eye ring are Gloss Aluminum. The face plate is semi matt black, the inner eye is matt black, and the outer eye is gloss black. The speaker panel is light gun metal.

All the colors look true to my eye.

The decals went on really nice, the ones around the lens really add a lot to the kit. They include a “reset” decal to use above the switch. I chose not to use it.

Very nice kit and workmanship. I’d like to hang one next to the front door, to deter potential evil-doers, but it would probably get stolen!

I think you will like it. Masking/painting takes up most of the time, and it is a very quick build.
