I am sure every one has a “hate” or atleast disslike of a particular action when building a model.
Myne is painting wheels, especially in 1/72 scale. They are just to small to mask off and I usually stuff it up! I also am pretty bad at masking canopy frames (even with using tamiya tape) LOL
Masking canopies! Yeah, that’s a good one! I’m old school and have not yet tried an AM mask…maybe things will get better after trying one of those. That and using Silly putty for ABing! Sometimes! [:@]
I have found that using tamiya tape cut into 1mm wide strips to be a good method of masking canopies. I stick that up against the canopy frame and then fill in the big areas with larger tape.
Still manage to stuff one up now and then !
I am just plainly to dead cheap to buy expensive mask sets that cost almost as much as the kit.
The one thing I forgot to add is filling and sanding, man do I hate that!, but then when the paint goes on well it almost makes up for it LOL…
My biggest pet peeve of all is a situation where I can’t figure out how a certain part is supposed to fit. This happens when there are no alignment pins and the instructions simply draw a line to the general vicinity of where it’s supposed to go. Of course, this frequently happens when I know that a misplaced part will affect the fit of major assemblies. Now I have to put down the model and do some research to figure it out. Nothing grinds my gears like this. It frustrates me to no end and makes me want to give up the hobby at times.
My building would go so much faster if I didn’t have to put up with this.
Removing seam lines, especially from landing gear and other little parts really saps my enthusiasm early on. That and, as Hypertex mentioned, vague instructions. The only plus side to the lousy instructions is I’m forced to learn more about the subject, which I enjoy.
Vaccuform Canopies. Period! Either too hard to see the frame lines or they are distorted. I can be super patient and on the last cut…then…oops, slipped and cut across a window[8o|]
As others have said; my first hate is re-scribing panel lines. Just haven’t got the knack of that yet. Second is masking canopies (or any clear part for that matter). And third is confusing instructions; more prevalent in armor in my experience and certainly Dragon’s instruction sheets sometimes seems to take a Ph.D and several reference books to accurately decipher.
Ha, haven’t posted for a long time! For me? Bombs, missiles, and other ordinance. Those things take forever. I hate building them, painting them and decaling them… Long tedious work. Also, stencils, all those little tiny decals… Ugh. To those that hate canopies… The ticket is parafilm and a brand new xacto blade. Works great!
