I Am building a diorama of F-14 about to launch. I need references on the deck, the jet blast deflector and the catapult scuttle ( the thing that the nose wheel attaches to.
Any help, pics or references would be greatly appreciated.

Detail and Scale put out several books of modern carriers. It has detail shots of the JBD, launch scuttle and scuttle tracks. I think they are all out of print but you may be able to find one somewhere.
About a year ago, I was thumbing through a book at Books A Million, named “Super Carriers”. I don’t remember who printed it, but it had lots of detail shots of the launch system. The book had over 200 pages and was around $50.00. You might be able to order it through any book store.
Look throught any book such as Squadron’s “In Action” series, the “Detail & Scale” series, “Color & Markings” series, etc on any Navy aircraft. There are usually some shots of the planes on a carrier deck and sometimes ready to launch. [alien]
Hiya John,
Also you could try doing a search on google,www.google.com. Put in different searches that pertain to the carriers deck. Good hunting.
Flaps up, Mike
This link will take you to the Navy’s official photo site with literally thousands of photos. Search using keywords and you’ll find some useful shots.

im planning to do something similar, however i find that i need dimensions, not just pictures, where can i find drawings with dimensions that i can use ?
Hmmm, I’ve never seen printed dimensions of JBDs. I’m no expert but I do believe they vary from ship class to class, and possibly ship to ship. They’re are detailed pics in books such as the Squadron “on Deck” and D&S series. You could extrapolate dimensions using something else in the picture for reference, or you could find plans of the particular CV your modeling and measure from there. Also many moons ago, Verlinden produced a resin JBD, which you could measure if you find one. Good luck. Let me know what you find.

This is a text site with some reading but it gives some specs.

I’m having the same problem, but mine’s a section of Japanese carrier deck, and it comes with a painting of the section, but no color help at all, or decscription of exactly what is molded into this large base (it’s an Eduard contraption, just a one piece molding in heavy styrene about 3/4" thick. It has obvious planks and tie downs molded in, as well as a large elevator, but has no instructions or help whatsoever. I have no idea what to paint it.
Anybody done one of these, or can offer any suggestions?
