I have taken up the task to use Modelkasten set SK-30 on my Alan hobbies Grille M because the kit-supplied links were amazingly flash-nasty. What I would like to know of is any tips or short cuts or just any plain information on howtoasemble these tracks. Since this is my first try at moveable traks any information would be extremely appreciated. Thanks
Having used that set several times on different builds, the best thing I can tell you is to not go by the suggested number of links for the track sides. The set suggests 95-96 links per side but for M chassis vehicles the length is too long because they only have 1 return roller, not 2 like the H chassis vehicles. I would suggest that you use the provided jig in the set and assemble the links into a single run 1 link at a time. I built the Flakpanzer 38(t) which uses the same chassis http://www.bpmodels.net/Model/Album/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6 so you can see how the MKs look with just 92 links per side.
Here’s a shot of how to assemble the links together into a run using the jig provided. The pins come on little handles to help with their mounting, just put a touch of glue on the head of the track pin, insert into the links via the jig, let it set up for a couple of minutes, then twist off the handle gently and voila, instant track run. Once you’ve got that first set of links done, just move it up on the jig to the first slot and start adding more links until you get the long single run. I highly recommend that you don’t glue the sprocket and idler in place on the suspension until after you’ve already test fitted the run of tracks to make sure you’ve got the right sag, otherwise you might end up with too loose or too tight tracks and be unable to adjust to get the right look.
