I’m new to modeling and am looking to buy a complete set of tools for the job.
1.Could someone out there possibly give me a list of what I’ll need (such as files and the types and sizes I’ll need), paint brushes, sprue cutters etc. I’m looking for tools that will last so I’m prepared to pay for the best tools on the market. A couple of brand name suggestions would be helpful. I have an airbrush and compressor so I’m sorted on that side.

Also, what outlet pressure should I be setting the compreesor regulator to when airbrushing?

What tools do I need to cut photo-etched parts from the sprue?
Thanks
Here’s an article on a modeler’s tool box I did several years ago (2001). While not an all encompassing list or a mandatory configuration, it is a good starting point:

Before I really got into this hobby, I used nail clippers (one that has a knife and a filer) for everything. But then again, I didn’t know any better and couldn’t afford those fancy tools. By the way, you can get most tools that you need from beauty supply stores, sears, the home depot and walmart for a decent price.
Hi,
There are various reviews of modelling tools that may not be exactly what you are after but could be of use?

Often people ask what tools do they need but oftenly forgot one thing that perhaps overlook but crucial to own;
A good working table light.

lol how true. You’ll spend plenty of time squinting at those tiny pieces, so make sure you have a good, strong light source.
here is an article on that very subject

Agreed. My model group has just finished a large set of dioramas commissioned by a museum and one thing we had in the workshop was a lamp with a large, rectangular magnifying lens and daylight bulbs. I was amazed by the quality of the light given off by these bulbs - far better than the standard electric light bulbs and no ‘yellow’ tinge to everything. If you are going to buy a lamp, make sure it has daylight bulbs - the difference is staggering. Hope this helps in the shopping list!
