Modeling stuff has to be put away for a while...

But I will have my own hobby area when they are pulled out again. [:D] Well… sorta. We are building a new house and I’m having to pack up the modeling stuff and put it in storage. Since we sold our old house so quickly, we are going to be homeless for about a month and a half. We will be staying a friends and family.

I will have an office in the new house and my wife has agreed to let me have the closet as a modeling “room”. I want to build a table in the closet with shelves. I look forward to having a place where I can work and leave my stuff out. I used to have to work on the kitchen table. Having to pull stuff out and put it all away after your done sure puts a damper on your enthusiasm to model sometimes.

Someone here posted a picture a while back of their closet modeling area which gave me the idea. Like his wife, my wife likes the idea because she can simply close the closet doors and not have to look at the mess. Anyone else model in a closet?

I can’t wait to start up the modeling again, hopefully with the new house I will actually be able to get some models finished and pictures posted of them.

Sorry for postin in the aircraft forum, but I only model planes and spend all my time here.

Davrukr,

Congrats on building the house and on getting your own place to model.

I had to stop modeling for three months or so when we moved into our house last year. I was spending nearly all my time fixing the house up so we could move.

Three weeks ago I started grad school. I’ve taken a break from modeling while I get used to being back in school. However, I plan on doing some modeling this weekend.

Regards,

Since you are building the house, can you add a window to the closet? Make it the deluxe closet!

Davrukr,
Congrats on sell the house. One big problem out of the way. Make sure you have a lot of ventalation in that closet. Hope to see you back up soon.

Davrukr,

I’m currently in the same process as you are. Our current apartment just doesn’t have the space for me to work on my hobby of building model aircraft. I’ve been out of the game since April of this year.[BH]

Fortunately a housesitting opportunity will allow me to bring the modelling supplies out in November until our house is finished sometime in February/March upon which I will have my very own quartescale workshop.[:D]

Nope!!! Since I realised there is nothing to be ashamed of for being a modeller? I came OUT of the closet. [;)]

Davrukr, I don’t know whether you’re looking for plans or not, but the May 1998 FSM had an article with a couple of photos and a plan view. It might be of interest if you can track it down and haven’t already seen it.
Good luck, and enjoy the new digs.
Greg

Hang on in there, Buddy!

I’ve been a “closet” modeler for about 8 years now, but that is soon to change, as I kept the house after the divorce, so now the former office will be mine to put an actual workbench in, with display shelve soon after that.

There’s also this article on making a hideaway work bench. Maybe there’s something there you could use:

Regards,

Cool, thanks for the advice on the mag and the hideaway bench. I’ll have to try and track down the mag.

I won’t have a great deal of ventilation there, or at least no more than normal. There will be a window right near the closet door though. But I don’t plan on doing any airbrushing in there. Only stuff done with a brush. I will still have to do my airbrushing in the garage. I will have an area for that in the garage, but the garage won’t be climate controlled and it gets hot as hell out there in the summer time in Texas. During the summer, I have to do my airbrushing in the morning on weekends only. It’s to hot even after the sun goes down in the evening. If I had the money, I would insulate the garage and put an air vent out there, but I don’t know if it’s worth the money to put in or the extra electric bill. (And all the upgrades my wife has already picked out have about drained me, haha)

the journey may be tough but the end will be worth it. congrats on the new house.
