So after a long drawn out process we are finally in our new house in Providence Ri…i am hoping to find out some info about the modeling clubs and shows in the region…i have been poking around a bit but some inside info would really help…i got a whole basement to myself here but am nowhere near ready to get the workspace all set up again…it will have to wait…
Good luck. I’m in Eastern CT (leaving soon!) and the closest stuff I could find is on the other side of the state!

I don’t know about specific clubs in Rhode Island. I also live in Eastern CT (about an hour from Providence). There is a club that meets in the Hartford area, but that would probably be too far of a drive for you. However, I know a couple armor guys who also live in RI, so my gut instincts tell me there is a club there, though I don’t know if it is armor specific or more general. I can e-mail them and see what I can find out for you.
As for shows, there are two ‘big ones’ that I go to. In March there is ValleyCon, which is in Chicopee, MA. It is an IPMS style show, so the builds run the gamut. It is a really well done show that is put on by the Wings and Wheels club.
Then in the fall, at the end of September, is AMPSEast. This is in Danbury, CT and is an armor only show. Again, a really nice show. Lots of good builds, lots of good vendors, and a ton of fun.
I am pretty sure there are also a couple of shows in the Boston area, or out on the Cape. In addition, there is DownEastCon, which is up in Maine a week or two before ValleyCon.
Believe it or not, you are in a good spot. There is a lot of modeling going on around you. You just might have to explore a little to make contacts (this thread is a good start).
I’ll contact a few guys I know and see what additional info I can get you.
Welcome to the east coast! As bbrowniii mentioned ValleyCon and AMPSEast are certainly worthwhile shows, and my club, Southern Maine Scale Modelers, puts on the DowneastCon every year in Saco.
Also, the Granite State Modelers ( http://home.comcast.net/~vf84/ ) put on a good GraniteCon every October in Nashua, N.H. Their site might also provide you with some area show and club info, as with the Wings and Wheels site: http://www.wwmodelclub.org/
Depending on how far you want to travel …
IPMS Wings & Wheels: http://www.wwmodelclub.org/
IPMS Statford Connecticut: http://www.ipmsstratford.org/
IPMS Bay Colony: http://www.ipmsbaycolony.com/
Granite State Modelers: http://home.comcast.net/~vf84/
IPMS Bay Colony is probably the closest to you. But each club sponsors their own contest every year.
thanks for all the info guys!..that is about what i found looking around…there is no ipms chapter here in RI but for some reason that doesnt suprise me. hopefully i will be making my way to those venues this coming summer…on the west coast i was buying and selling kits so if anybody knows somebody who is liquidating a collection let me know.
