Modeling Cars You Own/Owned

Over the years I have found that modeling and an interest in cars often go hand in hand. So on that note does anybody else like to model cars that they used to actually own?

I have done several and have a very long list of others to come.

In rough order of ownership. All were modeled as close to how they actually were when I had them including rust, bad paint and dirty engines.

The whole list of planned builds.

Completed

Only have two that I’m planning. First one I bought the truck brand new, still have it 33 years later. Kit has 351ci engine, mine only has the 302ci. Just minor differences under the hood.

Second one will be more work. Need to source a 4.2L V6, and get rid of the fancy go-fast body kit.

My family owned this car in the early '60s. One of the first cars I ever drove. Without all the racing accessories, of course.

I knew there would be some cool stuff! Keep 'em coming.

I have this 1/18 scale 2010 Mustang convertible. It’s similar to the 2012 Mustang I actually owned. I’d like to paint the interior light grey to match the real car.

Sounds like a lot of fun, possibly even a Group Build for you car guys.

I’ve built one, a Fiat 600 decades ago. and am working on a '49 Ford that was a mild custom. Maybe I should start a thread on that

The only car I owned that I would want to model would be my 1978 Ford Pinto. LOL…

A Pinto model complete with exploding gas tank :fire: would be cool.

I’m only half-joking. :joy:

I think most of the vehicles that I’ve owned over the years are in kit form or close to it except my 1980 Toyota Corrolla Tercel.

I already did the Charger. I have the rest of the kits in the stash - though the Challenger will be Don Garlits not mine

And my current ride (Challenger 2.0)

I also did a Datsun 510 - my first car, but not in boring beige…

And this is as close to my KZ400 as I can get it kit form

And I just found a model kit of this - my sailboat I had as a boy

I did forget… (Because it’s not a car, but a vehicle)

I have this kit which will model my namesake…

Nobody makes a 1983 Honda Accord Hatchback. That was my first car. I would buy one in a heartbeat if someone did.

I would NOT build my dad’s 1969 Plymouth Valiant. That was a good car, but a really boring car. It did have twin blue pinstripes though.

I don’t build model cars, but I commissioned another modeler to build a Ford Pinto for my best friend for his birthday about 2 years ago. The model was painted orange as that was the color of the car my best friend drove long, long ago. A sample pic of a real car is below of what the color was that I asked to have on the model.

Ahh yes the very popular late seventies Maverick and Pinto colour that the Ford brass very cleverly called “Orange”.

And the interior was just as orange as what the outside of the car was.

fxst, that is a sweet looking ride. I always liked the looks of the Harley FXRT from the 80’s-90’s.

Yep! I had a Maverick with the orange on orange for a couple of weeks in the early eighties. It was a real treat for the eyes.

Mind you I did go back to orange in 2014 but it was “Hot Lava” which made it so much better.
