Since chances are I won’t be completing any builds the rest of the year I thought I would go ahead put up my annual completed builds for the year. I still have three in various stages of completion.
#1 The Revell 1/144 Type VII U-boat in heavy seas. This was a Secret Santa gift for the Secret Santa GB


#2 The Tamiya 1/32 P-51D Mustang (Moonbeam McSwine) during a bit of maintenance. The Crew chief is having a pow wow with Capt. Whisner and another pilot. This was completed for the Mustang GB. Figures were from the kit and Verlinden.



#3 Hasegawa’s 1/48 A6M2-N Rufe. This was my first attempt at resin water. I had some hiccups but all in all I think it turned out well. This was for the Floats and Boats GB.



#4 Out of my comfort zone was the Pegasus Triceratops. This was completed for the Dino’s and Dio’s GB. It was given to my oldest grandson for his birthday.


#5 Next up is the MpM 1/18 Packard Merlin V1650 1490 HP Liquid Cooled V-12. This was also completed for the Mustang Build.



#6 The 1/48 Airfix P-40B completed for the 75th Anniversary of 1941 GB (World at War)


#7 The 1/72 Academy B-46 Stratojet built for both the Boeing Build and NMF GB’s.
It’s hanging in the middle grandson’s bedroom. Not the best kit.


#8 The 1/144 Trumpeter Gato 1941. This was built for myself and wanted to try a dio with a twist. It’s called “The Launch of the USS Puffer”



#9 The 1/200 Hasegawa 747 in British Airways livery. Completed for the Boeing Build.

10 The Airfix 1/144 727 in Lufthansa livery also built for the Boeing Build.



#11 The Monogram 65 Vette Street Machine built for the 2015/2016 Red Hot and Rollin Automotive GB.


#12 The 1/72 Academy Martin PBM-5A Mariner built for the Floats and Boats GB. Nice kit, highly recommended.


#13 The 1/350 Trumpeter Prinz Eugen built as the USS Prinz Eugen at Bikini Island. This was for the 1946 What If GB.



#14 The Hasegawa 1/72 A6M2 sunken Zero build for the Pearl Harbor GB. This short build I used as break from the Eugen. This was my second attempt at resin water. It also won First Place at our Hobby Town model contest.


#15 the 1/350 Hobby Boss Akula built for the Submarine Warfare GB.


#16 The Academy F-8 Crusader built for the Modern GB. This was a fun quick little kit.


#17 The Trumpeter Sturntiger built for myself. Nice little kit but has some errors.


#18 Last but certainly not least, the 1/72 ROG Type IX U-boat built for the Submarine warfare GB.




Phew!! 18 kits. I think that’s a record for me.

Some stunning builds there. Your water not only amazes me but is very insprational. I seem to have missed the GATO build,that is just outstanding.I can almost feel the spray.

Thanks for sharing and i lookforwardto seeing moreofyour work in 2017.

O, and i will be doing the HPH BMW engine in a few weeks, so we will have the trio.

Thanksfor the complement Steve. I think we all just feed off each other here and push each other to try new things and to keep improving. I know i would not be were i am in my modelling with the forum.

Everyone never ceases to amaze and stun me for the visual perfection that you all provide through the art of modeling. At modelcrazy, Bish, and many many other forum members level, this is not making models, this is art! Someday, I hope to be at this level like you all. I’ve a long ways to go!

Until then, I’ll keep building and keep on having fun. Oh yes, and continue to be part of the world wide FSM forum family. Happy New Years and I look excitedly to all your builds in 2017!

I have been trying VERY hard to pick a favorite but they are all stunning and a difficult decision indeed. I’m graviting to the first one posted, the 1/144 U Boat in heavy seas. As Bish posted, your water work is outstanding to say the least.

May you have a fantastic 2017 and health to build more stunners.

WOW Steve!!! Thanks for posting, I’d only seen about half of these and they knocked my socks off. All this nearly knocked my pants off too!!

Amazing my friend, I aim at ten finished a year (I hit about half that) eighteen- wow! And as usual for you they’re all top-notch! [Y][Y][Y]

Some super builds there. I particularly like the two Boeing airliners.

Question- loved the Mariner taking off. I am finishing up a Boeing 314 that I intend displaying as taking off. How did you do the spray behind the step?

What a craftsman modeler you are. I second Bish’s “inspirational” comment, everything about your post and photos is just that.

Question please, what NMF do you use? Whatever it is, the finish looks perfect. Thanks very much for showing us how modeling should be done, and so many of them. Great work.

Thanks guys, that means a lot and I couldn’t be more serious about that.

Don, the spray is Poly-Fil from Walmart. I used acrylic varnish to stiffen it.

Patrick, the NMF is Alclad. I vary the base coat from gloss to flat, black to gray. I will also AB gray streaks on the base coat to cause the streaking effect. In my opinion the base coat makes all the difference.

Steve- noticed that you have the Puffer launch listed as a 1/72 rather than a 1/144. Saw that after I got focused back behind the glasses.[;)]

Steve, those are awesome builds! That stormy U-boat dio captures the heavy seas perfectly! And so many other impressive dioramas too! I am truly inspired by your builds and must get on with a boot up my heinie to get something done in 2017!

Awesome work, sir. The Heavy Seas diorama really captures how tiny man is to the Oceans.
