This week I am off of work for a glorious ten days. Even though I love my job and look forward to going in everyday, some time off is always a good thing.
Thanks to my beautiful wife of ten years and the two greatest kids a father could ask for, I have been granted permission to unrestricted modeling this week.
This was not a planned vacation. Since things are slow in the shop now, the boss said that if anyone wanted to take some vacation time, now would be good. So here I am!
The wife and kids are busy with camp, sleepovers and all the usual summertime stuff. So I have accidently stumbled into some sort of alternate universe where my modeling time is not noticed.
So this week I am on my “model vacation”. Maybe I’ll try to find margaritaville too.
Sounds like a good week coming up Darren!! Enjoy it while you can. I got laid off once about 6 years ago and the month I spent “job hunting” was great for modeling too!. I was just getting back into the hobby after a long hiatus and I sure did enjoy it. I wish I could get a modeling job, that would be great!!
Heaven on earth…hmmm, I think tooling around the sky burning 100LL avgas is my heaven on earth, but this is a real close second. Considering the weather here in New England this week, I don’t think that will be happening.
My one and only project on the bench is AM’s 1/48 SBD-5. Strictly a OOB build. I’m concentrating on my detail painting and weathering techniques for this one. All too often I rush through the interior to get it together so I can paint and decal it. I usually close my canopies to hide the bland cockpit. Models that have every last detail picked out really catch my eye.
This kit is packed full of details that are begging to be painted, washed and drybrushed. So far I’ve got most of the interior painted and have started my washes. I’m also trying some new stuff for me. I’m going for some subtle paint fading and light to medium wear. Not so much chipped paint, but more of a worn almost down to metal effect.
So that’s the plan. We shall see if it comes to fruition.
How did you manage it? I had my week vacation in June, between all the Honey-Do’s (the primary one was painting our bedroom) she had for me. I got NO modeling done at all[:(]
I certainally admire you for your vacation. I hope to take one when my daughter goes back to school[:D]Perhaps, one before Christmas. Nevertheless have fun and enjoy.
